UAE to invest $136 billion in aviation infrastructure

2010-12-25 06:02:23 GMT+7 (ICT)

MOGADISHU, SOMALIA (BNO NEWS) -- The United Arab Emirates (UAE) on Friday announced that it will be investing 500 billion UAE dirhams ($136 billion) into its aviation infrastructure.

The announcement was made by the country's Ministry of Economy, stating that "over the next 10 years the UAE will be investing 500 billion dirhams in its aviation infrastructure, improving connectivity and cementing our reputation as a key growth driver in global aviation."

The aviation infrastructure in the UAE is already known for its advanced developments as the Dubai International Airport is one of the world's busiest airports. Other important airports in the country include Sharjah, Al Ain, Ras Al Khaimah and Fujairah, as well as a major executive airport at Al Bateen.

"We have a world-class transport and communications network as well as some of the fastest growing airports and airlines in the world," stated Sultan Saeed Al Mansouri.

Furthermore, the Economy Ministry said traffic in the UAE witnessed a 11.5 percent growth during the first half of the year as the country's national carriers added new destinations and its liberal open skies policy brought in more foreign carriers to the UAE.

In addition, the UAE is also building the Dubai World Central project, worth approximately $33 billion, in Jebel Ali, which will hold what is expected to become the world's biggest airport, Al Maktoum International.

For this article to be accurate it should read " Abu Dhabi to invest $136 in aviation infrastructure" , the other emirates are the poor relatives, well relatively speaking and their continuing independence is at the will of their mega rich benefactor.

should have been titled, UAE provides more indirect subsidies to its aviation sector to undercut other national airlines.
