Most probably a good catch (let the courts decide that) but again, what is it with the police and lubricants? All kinds of lubricants are sold legally all over Thailand, at every 7-11, Boots, etc. In this case also the charges are related to oral sex. If you require lubricants for oral sex, you really should see a doctor ASAP. So again why do the police treat legal lubricants as illegal contraband, and more curiously why does the foreigner press entertain such odd notions by always reporting on the lubricants? If lubricants are a problem, why not bust every 7-11 in Thailand? If they are going to criminalize lubricants, what's next, hair pomade, dish soap, moisturizing lotion?

Mr. Haselsberger was arrested and a number of pornographic movies depicting sexual acts involving children were also seized along with a tube of lubricating jelly.

Well; judging by the photos, I would say that there is not much debate to this story. Good riddance to another scumbag! I still do not give any credit to the authorities, because yet again they are in it after the fact. This bad apple fell right into their basket while they were snoozing under the tree. The people who are in the right to to sense that something is going on have just as much right (if they are certain this is going on) to do a little justice of their own and then call the cops. Funny that they casually allow this to go on and after a fashion, take their jolly good time getting around to contacting the police.

It is, however, interesting that such condemning evidence is treated with such a light headline. "Accused"??? Usually the other similar events, which are much more ambiguous have much harsher headlines and makes the reader wonder why such Machiavellian tactics are engaged when the story provides no evidence. I clicked on this article expecting the usual stupid details outlining vague and ambiguous things and was blown away by the graphic evidence. Oh well! That's the PTSnooze for you.

Again; good riddance!

Of course the guy is accused and arrested. Assuming he will be convicted, then he will be convicted. That is standard press practice for responsible media anywhere. Is he probably guilty? Appears to be so, but that is still not the same as a confirmed conviction yet, so why report differently?

Well just maybe they looked at the lubricant in the context of the situation, added pedophile, young boy and lubricant and came up with 3. In this case the charge is of oral sex, but one might assume there is an ongoing investigation and further, more serious, charges may be laid.

Unless you can suggest another use of lubricant in the same situation?

But there's never, ever been any misunderstanding regarding the total legality of personal lubricants. This article doesn't say he was arrested for possessing lubricants. They mention it in the context of evidence of what may have been happening at the scene of the crime. Now, if they said that the police seized some bottles of Elmer's Glue-all and a carpenters trestle, then the perp could claim he was simply giving the young boys some harmless home carpentry lessons.

Another side to this story, This guy had been monitored for some time, 1. The boys are maybe along with others, could have been for sleapovers before. 2. if so they did it for cash?. and for how long have they been doing it. 3. did their parents know ?-if so did they get any benefit from it. 3 If so THEY ought to be in the next line up photoshot. 4 There,s loads of boys of this age around Pattaya on the game, esp.,Sunnee Plaza area. This Ausrian man is yet to be charged, so it will be interesting what else comes of this, On the photo he looks a bit sorry for himself, The stupid idiot (if guilty) But look at the boys--my god-pointing as if to say yes thats him. He did it to us. Most of therse kid are well past streetwise, Wheres MUM ?????

Thai men are routinely abusing minors in the Thai - only bars every night. Where is the enforcement on that? I love the way the Thai police parade the pervs and criminals around on tv. Actually makes the people believe they are doing something besides "drinking tea" and letting the Thai elite get away with child molestation on a nightly basis!

Sorry you don't get my point. Lubricants are evidence of NOTHING criminal. They do suggest a person was either planning or has had sex or masturbation of some kind, but they are evidence of nothing more than that, any more than a box of tissues or condoms is. BTW, the police also often report they have confiscated CONDOMS as if that is a crime (and the silly local press reports that too).

quite ironic he was caught on christmas day. best christmas present for some kiddy vitcims. hope he get full punishment the scum bad. look at his passport looks like a normal businessman. probably in a respectable comminity back home. i hope he gets a reall punishment. at least he is named and shamed. just hope they got the right person or his life might aswell be over.

thats the problem with these cases they have to be 150% per cent correct before arresting because getting the wrong person could cripple an innocent man.

The Nation have it as Australian :realangry:

Australian arrested for sex with teens

Chon Buri -- Tourist Police early Saturday arrested an Australian man, who was accused of molesting two boys aged 14-15 at a rented room in Chon Buri's Bang Lamung district along with 23 pornographic VCDs of boys.

Following a tip-off that a foreigner was to bring minors for molestation at the rented room, police staked out until they spotted the 39-year-old suspect, Walter Hasesberger, coming in with a 15-year-old boy at the room. Another 14-year-old boy followed them to the room.

When police raided the room, they found the man in bed with the first boy, both naked. Police said the man had confessed to molesting the two boys for the first time.

The 15-year-old told police that Hasesberger promised to pay him Bt1,000 for a "hand job" and that his 14-year-old friend had been similarly hired twice before by Hasesberger.

The Australian has been charged with taking minors under 18 for molestation, with or without the minors' consent.

Anyway.what do you mean Thai long.....you have not been writing English long !!!!!!......But to answer your crazy suggestion about my length of stay in Thailand...................only 32 years since I came.. I have watched these party times farrangs with boys over all these years, seen it on the streets , on the beach. Most of these KIDS as you put it ..know exactly what they are doing............its MONEY they start young...thats why you get the older ones ripping people off. And what I said -about (wheres mum). She will surely know if her boy has-or is getting 1000 bht each time he goes with a foreigner. He will be drunk..He will be staying out late..He will buy a mobile..or clothes..Will she ask him--"no school today"" Their parents are as sick as the pervs who pay the boys....dont give me the boys in Pattaya at this age are mere kids....Ha Ha,-----------but I will say YES they ARE minors and DO need protecting. The police job to do that. So please don,t be telling me that I don,t know..I see it as everyone does thats here.. THESE KIDS NEED HELP.....and the pervs that take them.

Just makes you wonder how many of these rock spiders are crawling around the gutters of Pattaya. How many is this now in the last month? Well into double figures. As a parent who loves his kids very much I personally would not take my children within 100 kms of Pattaya. They place frightens the hell out me hearing all the horrible stories comming out of the place everyday. (murders, serious assaults and pedophilles to name just a few)

Does this answer your question?

Nounrock spider (plural rock spiders)

  1. Australian prison slang for a pedophile/child molester. Rock spiders constitute the lowest rung of inmates in the prison system, and are looked down on (and often mistreated) by all other inmates.
  2. A term used to refer to a paedophile. In common usage within correctional facilities. Derived from the analogy that a paedophile, like a rock spider, is always getting into little cracks. Crass I know, but there it is.

Actually, Pattaya is a safe destination for you and your kids. Children from loving, caring, involved families such as yours would not be targets. So you are seriously overreacting in this regard.

As a parent who also loves his kids dearly...i have taken mine to pattaya several times over the years and never had a problem.

If you take care of your children and don't let them out of your sight, how can it be a problem and if you do not let strangers near your kids, how can it be a problem.....I also educate my kids to never talk or deal with strangers....if anyone ever tried=s to grab them, hold them, touch them in any such way....they are taught to scream, bite, kick, scratch and cause as big an attention getter as they possible can.....a licence to have a tantrum of global scales.

Granted, the guy at dinner next to you could be looking at your kids...he could comment nicely on what lovely children you have.....but so could your neighbour.

You can take kids there if it is the kind of place you like to holiday at.....usually we holiday elsewhere, but we might go here for a certain reason for something....or to visit a close beach for a weekend and thats it and you can stay away from the usual areas of concern, others are relatively fine.
