Where To Exchange Usd To Thai Bath-need Advice

Featured Replies

I would like to know where can I Exchange USD to thai Bath in good rate.

Usualy I do it in Bankok Airport.

Hope to get your suggesstions.

Just about any bank would give you better than the airport, I deal with Siam and always get good rates.

ATM(s) I've found give the better rate - course need to find out if your own bank charges a foreign change fee. Mine doesnt so I am happy.

I have ATM and it works in Bankok .

So should I bring cash usd or just widthraw from ATM.

Which is economical.

Please advice.

Airport (bank)rates are much the same as outside bank rates. Either way it would be stupid to change ALL of your money at the airport.

For ATM withdrawals, you'll need to check what charges your bank will make per withdrawal.

For safety purposes, you can consider American Express US$ Travellers Cheques for Thailand.

For Sukhumvit, just make sure wherever you exchange is part of a bank and not an independent organisation.

There may be a small variation between banks. Depending on the amount you may wish to exchange there may be little incentive to run around comparing rates.

Bear in mind that ALL institutions offer lower rates for bills under US$50.

Dear valentinoxxx ,

Thanks for your advice .

Take a look for yourself. Change only what you need at the airport and than compare the rate when you get into town.

Rates change on a daily basis.

Bangkok Bank has good rates

I would propose you go to a BATH house or even HomePro, if you want to get a BATH, or do you mean Baht (thb)

Bet you get a funny reaction from the locals when you ask them how much BATH you give me for 1 dollar. (Better bring your own soap) :o:D:D

If you're looking to change cash dollars there's some tailor shops that give you usually one baht per dollar more than the bank rate of the day.

Dear Meom,

Thanks for your advice.

Yes ,we will bring cash Dollars .

Can you give me the name and address of the Tailor Shops

where can do the changes in 1 baht more.?.

Hope to hear from you.

Don't know the name but a couple of weeks ago I changed cash in Suk. soi3.

If you come from Starbucks you take a left at the crossing and enter soi3. In the beginning of the soi there's 2 tailorshops and a restaurant or something.

Suggest you try both shops cause I can't remember which one it was. The same people used to have a shop on the other side of the street in the past and they've been changing money for ages it seems.

They also take obscure notes such as saudi riyals that most banks won't change.

This is pretty much my take on the matter, too. I used to scour each new city in each new country I found myself in for the bestest rate - only to find in the end I'd gained an extra dollar's worth of the local dosh and lost nearly half a day. I did learn my way around, and there were other benefits, but they came as a result of me doing the legwork. In most cases - and Thailand is one such case - seeking someone else's advice in this matter is well nigh useless. The rates don't vary that much from one place to another, and the black market is not helpful at all. Just concentrate on having a good time.
