Non Immigrant O Visa Work

Featured Replies

Hi guys,

I'm planning o marry my longtime girlfriend and hopefully move to bangkok with her in a few months. After reading variouse websites i understand that i can get a non immigrant 'O' visa as i will be married to a thai natinonal,

I'm in my 20's and have a degree and stable job here in australia and will put the required 400000 baht in thai bank as required for the visa. My question is will i be able to find work with a non immigrant type 'O' visa once i move to bangkok? Does the visa permit work?

thanks in advance

If you are planning to put 400,000 Baht in the bank you can apply for a 12 month extension of stay. Not a Visa.

Yes you can work with this if you have a Work Permit.

Work Permits are a seperate issue from visa and immigration requirements, they are done through your employer.

First you have to find a job that a foreigner can work at. Then the person offering the job must meet the requirements for a work permit to be issued. You then must obtain the work permit. If you have a stable job in Oz you might want to check very carefully before leaving it. You will be severely limited as to what you can do here if not a specialist in something there is an immediate need for (and that changes often). Most foreigners employed at higher salary are here on transfers rather than local hire and the others are often not making enough to enjoy any savings. This is not to say you can not make it - but you do not seem to have any idea of the situation; so please be careful.

Once you are married you can get a 12 month multi entry Non O visa based on marriage at the Brisbane Thai consulate without showing any money.

It would seem you need to do a bit more research and fact finding before you do anything else. It would seem from your comments here that you may also be mixing things up a little too.

A "Non O Visa (1yr Multi entry)" based on marriage is obtained outside Thailand, so if you intend to marry in Australia as an example then you can go get your O Visa in Oz, which as far as I know does not require the 400k, the 400k is required for a "1 yr extension" based on marriage which is obtained inside Thailand.

As Lopburi states be careful, there are restrictions on what occupations a foreigner is allowed to carry out in Thailand. Please listen to the advice and guidance given by the moderators, they know their stuff.

If I have stated anything incorrectly I am sure they will correct it.

Thanks for clearing things up. i'll have to re-think on making the move to bangkok if work is going be tough to find.

I originally thought that the non immigrant visa would permit me to work in Thailand.

I don't see how its so different from a tourist visa, other than u can stay longer.

I also have been looking at a working holiday visa, but it only allows me to work no more than 3 months in each job.

i do have a friend working in bangkok, but he is working in a specialized role which is in high demand.

thanks again

My soon to be wife just wants to be close to her family.

They seem to want to make it real hard for foreigners to live there.

Easy to live here, hard to earn a living here.

I think at your age it would easier for your wife to move to and work in Australia, and then come here for holidays.
