CAIRO, EGYPT (BNO NEWS) -- Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu on Thursday met Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak and discussed ways to advance the diplomatic process.

The meeting took place in the Egyptian city of Sharm e-Sheikh. The two leaders had a a lengthy discussion on the bilateral efforts. The two Middle East leaders also discussed the situation with Palestine.

Netanyahu assured that a peace agreement between Israel and Palestine can be reached if the Palestinians are willing to end the conflict. PM Netanyahu asked President Mubarak to act to persuade the Palestinians to move to direct, intensive and serious negotiations.

The fence that is being constructed along the Israel-Egypt border was also discussed. Netanyahu updated the Egyptian president on the rapid progress in constructing the fence.

The PM added that the border wall would help reduce the number of Africans who infiltrate into Israel through Egypt. The fence would also aid Israel's fight against terrorism.

Prime Minister Netanyahu said that Israel is committed to aggressively fighting terrorist militants in Gaza that endanger its security and peace.
