Future Expats

After 3 winters spent all over Thailand, many years reading about Thailand, my wife and I are slowly considering retiring there. We're from Canada and we're completely feed up paying taxes on everything. java script:emoticon('')Having read most topics on this site, I didn't find anything concerning insurances. Do you Expats buy insurance from abroad? Is there medical insurance? and $$$? . Proud to be a member XRey

Many do, many don't. Health care is so inexpensive in Thailand and many standard drugs require no prescriptions that self insurance is an option, unlike in the west.

Blue Cross is here. Life Insurance is here. Almost anytype of insurance, including worldwide health for travelers is here.

Retire here and then do your insurance shopping once you determine what you decide to buy.

You might want to have a look at BUPA:

Also I'm advised by a BUPA rep that, "The member who join before the age of 61 years, and continuously insured, are guaranteed renewal for life. Members who join after the age of 61 years are guaranteed renewal up to age of 70 years inclusive."

And they do not insure anyone 65 or over.

Sun Alliance also offers suitable policies.
