January 25, 201115 yr I have a dual boot system with both XP and Windows 7. XP is on C: Drive and Win 7 on F: What is the process to either totally uninstall Windows 7 or re-install Windows 7 without destroying the ability to boot to XP (the current default)? My XP system hold all my current programs until proper Windows 7 programs are available. Loss of ability to boot to XP would be devastating. Thanks
January 25, 201115 yr To restore the Windows XP bootloader, use the bootsect.exe utility available on the Windows 7 Installation DVD. For example - bootsect /nt52 C: To view command parameters, type bootsect /help
January 25, 201115 yr The procedure in a nutshell... 1. Boot to Windows XP 2. Delete or format Win7 partition (optional) 3. Insert the Win7 Installation DVD 4. Execute X:\Boot\bootsect /nt52 C: /force 5. Reboot the machine
