Thong Nai Pan Noi On Koh Phangan

Recommended Posts

I used to live down in TNP for quite a long time but I've not been down there now since 2005 so I was just wondering what it was like now . I've heard there's been a lot of new development etc. Wondering about the road too. Much concrete yet or not. Thinking of going down in May for a holiday so I'm wondering how pricey it is now as well. Is there still a good party scene there or is it quiet now ? Any info good thanks !!

The road to TNP is concrete for a few Km, then is still the beautiful, hard, broken old jungle road :D.

Yes, several new developments and high end hotels, some ATMs but still keeping the old charme.

I don't know about the party scene, but after Bantai, on the road to TNP, 3 or 4 big parties every month.

Wow, so there's an ATM there now. Don't know if that is good or bad. Too easy to get more money when you're pissed. What about 7-11 ? Can't see the locals letting that happen somehow.

When the 7 eleven company managed to open an outlet in TNP, simply the big family running the area said them that if they open they just burn the shop away .

So now TNP is the only location in KPG without a 7 eleven.

In 2005 still had small parties at different bars each night with one happening each week on Yai if I remember correctly.....rooms from 100Baht a night.....no real development cheap huts everywhere.

Almost all of the cheap huts are now gone and replaced by 2000-3000 Baht rooms with a luxury development right in the middle of the beach costing way more than that. Paradise lost unless you have $$$.

Yai is the place to go now for a cheaper stay. The backpackers have long gone now....

ya i take people to the "5" star on that beach all of the time. or at least i used to until the number of complaints about that resort caused me to divert them to the better facility on TNPY. now that the resort on TNPN has been taken over by the same group that owns 3 or 4 different 5 star hotels on samui maybe i can take them back to TNPN again.

i wouldn't go there for peace and quiet. it's becoming the place to be for group beach parties.

Interesting reading, we always used to say go to Yai for quiet and Noi for the nightlife because it had the Hideaway, Jungle bar and Pong's place down the end. My mates still have their bar in the middle of the beach , bar Flip Flop and I know they are still there. Might go down just for old time's sake to have a look. Used to only be the Panviman as far as resorts went and I think the last time I was there in 05 and they were building Panviman 2. If it is that pricey probably only stay a few days , or and ( I know this sounds strange ) stay around Tong Sala somewhere, got wife and two kids now so it might be good to be be close to facilities. Can always get about on a bike in the daytime to go to the beach. Is Amsterdam Bar still there up on the hill outside Thong Sala ? great views from there and pretty cheap and good rooms too.

I believe Bert has moved Flip Flop over to Yai now. ;)

Really, so what happened there ? Does he still run it with Roman or have they gone separate ways or are there two Flip Flops ? Do you know Why ? A lot of questions I know but going to see Bert would be the first thing I would do on arrival. I love that big Dutch bastard !!

I've not been over for a while but I hear the new place is right on the beach on Yai....I doubt you'll miss it! Looking forward to a visit myself in May....still doing the bombs I would guess...be sure to book a room within staggering distance! :D

The old place was right next door to the new 5* place so I guess thats got something to do with the move....but I dunno for sure.....best ask him yourself....

Both are on TNPY now, the old places has been flattened and nothing has happened yet. Belongs to a big shot in BKK...., they closed in April last year if I remember correctly.....(BTW still serving the Jaegermeister)

THAT group owns 1 resort on Samui and manages another....and what would 'the better' facility on TNPY be?

the group i'm referring to owns one property between bang por and bang makham, another in bophut and another of a very similar name in chaweng, in addition to managing the property in TNPN. the better facility i was referring to is managed by a company that manages nearly a dozen hotels and resorts on samui and pha ngan and i referred to it as "better" specifically due to their ability to effectively manage larger, affluent groups with reasonably high expectations.

i'm quite certain that the TNPN facility will improve their mgmt and service staff now that they've been taken over. at least i hope so since it's nice to have two properties to offer over there.

Well I've been speaking to some people on Facebook and it turns out that the woman who owned the land that Bahnglangaow was on wanted it back, hence the demolition of Flip Flop and the dive shop and the subsequent relocation to Yai. So I've just answered my own question there. And Bert and Roman are still together ( in a non sexual way ). Just seen some photos of Pong's new restaurant as well. Looks nice although it's got a strange name : Better than sex !!

I am not aware of the one in Bang Por, the one in Chaweng is NOT owned and yes, I hope with 'A' managing now in TNPN, the 'C' company will have real competition.

'A' resort was never meant for large groups anyway as far as I know.

the company i'm referring to specifically is "not a very minor group", owning hotels all over samui in addition to a number of restaurant chains etc.

they probably own at least one property here for each of the 4 seasons, climatically speaking ;) and now they are branching out to phangan.

When the 7 eleven company managed to open an outlet in TNP, simply the big family running the area said them that if they open they just burn the shop away .

So now TNP is the only location in KPG without a 7 eleven.

7 eleven have been open in TNP for six months already
