February 3, 201115 yr We have ADSL connected to a D Link Router on the second floor of our building.. We also have a room on the 5th floor of the same building... Would like to use the same Wireless but no signal (very weak to the 4th floor).. Short of running a cable from the 2nd to 5th floor, is there a way we can amplify the 2nd floor signal?
February 3, 201115 yr Need some more info, please: Is the system on the 5th floor a Desktop or Laptop? Are you using a USB dongle or PC card in Desktop, or PCMCIA card in Laptop? If using a USB dongle, you could try extending the dongle on a USB extension cable, and put the dongle in a spherical metal bowl turned upside down pointed at the wireless router. Sort of acting like a dish antenna. If using a card in a desktop, turn the antenna parallel to the floor, or try a better antenna. On the router, try turning the antennas on their side (parallel to the floor) rather than straight up. You could try to boost the wifi power on the router, if available in the router configuration, or try a more directional antenna on the router, pointed toward the 5th floor. Or try some things from this site: http://www.usbwifi.orconhosting.net.nz/

Looking at ways to do this... A local guru suggested putting a directional antenna outside both the 2nd and 5th floors.. will try this when all else fails..
February 4, 201115 yr With any wireless application, amplification is a two edged sword. You amplify the signal AND the noise. A better antenna is the way to go.

I probably agree about antenna... any suggestions about what and and where to obtain? 1)You can use antenna or 2)u can buy some router and use it as repeater Mode (Currently i m using in this style) 3) u can take a cable line from your first floor But remember to note if you use wifi you loss lot of data package then Cable so try to use Cable for Best and speed access
