Report: Boeing considering to make a new 737

2011-02-11 06:50:37 GMT+7 (ICT)

SEATTLE (BNO NEWS) -- Boeing Commercial Airplanes on Thursday said it is considering to build a new version of the 737 aircraft, but no final decision has yet been made, Seattle's KING-TV reported.

"We're going to do a new airplane," Boeing CEO Jim McNerney said during a conference on Thursday morning, according to the news report. McNerney added that the move to an all new jet could come by 2019 or 2020.

The 737 aircraft is the world's most popular jet and the company still needs to finish thousands of current or so called "next generation" models that are currently on order. Today's 737 are five percent more fuel-efficient than the first Next-Generation 737s delivered in 1998.

KING-TV said that, with continued instability in fuel prices and growing demand for large aircraft, the pressure has been on for some time to make planes such as the 737 get even better mileage.
