Two German soldiers killed in attack in Afghanistan

KABUL, AFGHANISTAN (BNO NEWS) -- Two German soldiers on Friday were killed and seven more injured in an attack in northern Afghanistan, the German Bundeswehr (Federal Defense Force) informed.

The German soldiers were part of the International Security Assistance Force (ISAF) and were working on a vehicle in a German military camp (OP North) in northern Afghanistan.

An individual wearing an Afghan National Army uniform fired at the German soldiers in Pul-e Khumri district of Baghlan province. The soldiers fired back and killed the attacker.

However, two German ISAF service members were killed and seven more injured. Three German soldiers were seriously wounded. All the injured service members were treated at the German medical facilities in Kunduz and Mazar-e Sharif.

The shooting took place at about 12:00 p.m. local time at the gate of the OP North. The soldiers were working on a vehicle of the 2nd Protection training battalion, according to Bundeswehr.

The two victims were a 22-year-old private first class soldier and a 30-year-old sergeant according to Bundeswehr; the relatives of both victims have been informed as well.

The German defense force also informed that this was the first time that an attack in the northern region of Afghanistan led to the killing of German soldiers.
