RABAT (BNO NEWS) -- Thousands of pro-democracy protesters on Sunday took to the streets throughout Morocco to demand political reforms, Afrol news reported.

The biggest protests were in the country's capital Rabat and Casablanca, the largest city. Minor cities, including Marrakech, Tangier, Fez and Al-Hoceima, also experienced rallies in which

protesters called for limits to the powers of King Mohammed VI and the introduction of a constitutional monarchy according to the Spanish or British model.
Throughout the country, protesters demanded more democracy, less corruption and deep-ploughing social reforms.

The rallies were peaceful, and the police didn’t have to intervene.

More people continued to join the manifestations throughout the day.
In Marrakech, some 5,000 people were reported to be in the streets of this inland city, where authorities normally do not allow protests. In the capital, about one thousand people gathered, according to civil organizations.

The country has a variety of political parties and a freely- elected parliament, although governmental powers are restricted in key areas where the monarch has the final word.
