MEXICO CITY (BNO NEWS) -- At least 190 youths from Mexico City committed suicide in 2010 due to bullying at school, according to Mexico's Movement Foundation (MF).

MF director Trixia Valle was at Mexico's Citizen Council for Public Security and Law Enforcement, and stated that the main reason behind youth suicides is bullying at school. She added that kids usually decide to take their own lives after arriving home from school, explaining that the most common methods are hanging themselves or cutting their veins.

In addition, Valle said cyberbullying is an important factor in these cases as well, as students go back home or head to a cafe internet after school, check their email or social networking sites, and find further abuse through messages and public posts.

The number of reported cases was based on investigations conducted by Mexico City's legislation, which also noted that bullying-led suicide among youths most commonly occur in junior high students after the abuse carries on from elementary school.

Valle, who also assured that bullying frequently leads kids to criminal activity, was at the Citizen Council signing a cooperation agreement for the foundation to carry out training programs at the council regarding suicide.

She also called on schools to have psychologists on school grounds in order to deal with these continually increasing cases.
