How Do Marriage Work Legaily In Thailand . . .

Featured Replies

Plan to get married in Thailand but we are both foriegners . . . Our paper works are already prepared and translated in english. .. After marriage what we should do next??? Do we need to report it to my embasyy and his embassy??? What if he doesn't want to report our marriage to his embassy??? Do you think our marriage is legal in US without reporting it???

A marriage in Thailand is accepted by almost all countries, including the US. No need to register the marriage with an embassy, unless a country specifically requires that.

It might be handy to have the marriage certificate legalize by the embassy, in case you ever need proof of the marriage in your own country. A legalized copy of the marriage certificate would do that.

I don't know about USA, but Australia recognises Thai marraige as legal in Australian Law.

Best to get any Thai marriage certificate translated and stamped by embassy here to cover your backside back home, as when I went back to Aus they had no idea it was legal and my hick town wouldn't accept it, even though the federal govt would.

Check with your embassy here to be sure.
