Singer Christina Aguilera arrested for public intoxication

LOS ANGELES (BNO NEWS) -- American artist Christina Aguilera was arrested in Los Angeles on early Tuesday morning on a misdemeanor charge of public intoxication, police said.

The Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department said Aguilera, 30, was arrested at around 2.45 a.m. local time in West Hollywood after police pulled over her 25-year-old boyfriend on suspicion of driving under the influence. Aguilera was a passenger in the vehicle.

Officers arrested Aguilera's boyfriend, Matthew Rutler, on a misdemeanor charge of suspicion of driving under the influence and put his bail at 30,000 dollars. It was not immediately known if Rutler had paid the bail.

Aguilera's bail was set at 250 dollars and she was released shortly after, with no court date immediately set.

Christina Aguilera is best known for number one hits such as "Genie in a Bottle", "What a Girl Wants" and "Dirty." Most recently, Aguilera performed the U.S. national anthem during the Super Bowl XLV on February 6. She received criticism for omitting a line of the anthem and messing up the song's lyrics.
