Dentist

Hi all

A friend of mine has just told me about a dentist which uses laser treatment in Udon Thani. He said its more expensive but no injections and no pain what so ever!

Now being terrified of the dentist, this sounds really good to me.

My question is does anyone know of a dentist just like this but in Bangkok?

There must be one ?!?!?!?

Thanks for your help

What procedure(s) do you require, and/or are terrified of?

Googled "laser dentistry" found this:

There are currently four areas of dental care that are enjoying the

benefits of laser technology:

* Cavity removal can be accomplished with two currently available (and

FDA approved) laser machines. Both have the ability to remove decay within a

tooth, and prepare the surrounding enamel for bonded fillings. The need for

anesthesia is greatly reduced or eliminated over the traditional methods.

Laser energy dramatically reduces the bacteria found in dental decay, and has

been demonstrated to enhance the tooth's ability to "heal" in situations

where "deep cavities" had existed. There are, however, several limitations

to laser decay removal including the inability to adequately remove silver

fillings, onlays, and crowns.

* Curing, or hardening bonding materials is another area where lasers

have become important. These lasers drastically reduce the time it takes to

finish a filling, and create what some researchers have shown to be a

stronger restoration.

* Whitening teeth can be accomplished with special solutions that are

applied to the tooth surface in the dental office and activated by laser

energy. Color changes of several shades is possible in a very short time.

When combined with at-home tray based whitening systems, dramatic changes can be seen in even the most difficult cases.

* Periodontal, or gum related care is the fourth area benefiting from

laser technology. Lasers are currently used for recontouring or reshaping

gums (often described as "plastic surgery for the smile"), removing extra or

diseased gum tissue associated with the use of certain medications or

periodontal disease, and removing the bacteria in periodontal pockets to

promote healing. Healing time and post operative discomfort can be

significantly reduced over the traditional surgical methods.

I got these from searching here; all seemed to be recommended.

When I lived in BKK I never found a dental clinic I was completely happy with (does not mean there aren't any good ones, but the ones I checked out all seemed impersonal and pricey or incompetent)

If you have any desire to visit Chiang Mai, then combine that visit with gettting your dental work done. Grace Dental Clinic is one of the finest, most modern dental clinics in the world, warm and friendly a great group of dentists and very reasonably priced IMHO. http://www.gracedentalclinic.com/

There are also some other clinics in CM that some others also swear by, but most seem to prefer Grace. You can see more by doing a search on dentist in the CM forum.

Thanks for the link etc, the place looks really good but it doesn't mention anything about laser treatment. Do you know if they do it or anywhere that does?

Thanks again

I do not recall them using laser for drilling at all, though they may use it for whitening or hardening. However I have not been in to see them for about 2 and 1/2 years, so not sure what they may be doing now. I would suggest emailing or calling them. Also Dentaland is highly recommeded http://www.chiangmainews.com/dentaland/ . Fortune dental clinic may be another possibility http://www.fortunedentalclinic-thailand.com/

I was the same as you, had a butcher for a school dentist, scared stiff ever since, last time i was in Bangkok my wife took me to a dentist at the MBK centre, 6th floor i was petrified, i nearly fainted before i went in, thats how bad i was, anyhow to cut a long story short, i saw the dentist, i had to have a complete lower denture, 8 crowns, one implant, i did not feel a bit of pain, he gave us 6 injections and did not feel them, i cannot wait to go back to have the other treatment done, so relaxed, my fear of dentists has now gone, after using this guy at the MBK centre, superb, and a h e l l of a lot cheaper than the UK.
