webfact
Suthep urges govt's opponents to stop using violence against PM Deputy Prime Minister Suthep Thaugsuban Monday urged opponents of the government to stop using violence against the prime minister. Suthep said all sides, including red-shirt people and supporters of the Pheu Thai Party, should instead get themselves prepared to contest the next election. Suthep made the call after police arrested four people for allegedly planning to pelt Prime Minister Abhisit Vejjajiva with rotten eggs at Impact Arena Muang Thong Thani Sunday evening. Suthep said those who plan to pelt the prime minister with water bottles and eggs should stop doing so or else the Pheu Thai would be perceived of encouraging the people to use violence. -- The Nation 2011-03-
animatic
Those without imagination always fall back on violence to get their way. One reason is that their lack of imagination means no one else really wants to follow their way. Fortunately in using violence they often lack the imagination to succeed with that tactic also. hammered
The Democrats picked up a PPP seat in a by-election up north after Chuan was assaulted there a few years back. The silliness can backfire. Everyone of every party should be able to campaign everywhere free from intimidation. If that is not possible, then you wont have a free and fair democratic election, which makes it easier to question the outcome, and remember nobody will accept losing so... webfact
Pheu Thai Urged to Stop Aggressing PM A deputy prime minister calls on the opposition Pheu Thai Party to stop harassing the prime minister, saying such a campaign creates no benefit to itself and the election. Deputy Prime Minister in charge of national security Suthep Thaugsuban urged those who are reportedly planning rotten egg and bottle attack on the prime minister to give up the move given this will rather mar the upcoming election. Suthep said those involved in the move have relations with Pheu Thai and it will be the most affected party by such a campaign. The deputy premier insisted the government has never made up a situation to smear its political adversaries and reiterated the House dissolution will take place in one month as the prime minister has pledged. Suthep then stated he believed there will be no political accident that would abort the election and his ruling Democrat Party will win more MP seats in the southern border region. He said only his party or Pheu Thai would gain enough House seats to nominate one of their MPs as prime minister while advising the latter to finalize the selection of its leader before the House is dissolved. The deputy premier remarked he welcomed any new political party to run in the upcoming election as its contest will offer more alternatives for voters. -- Tan Network 2011-03-

Following the last coup (remember September 2006?) and new general elections December 2007 we had two governments lead by the late k. Samak and then k. Somchai. Both governments mostly remembered for only being busy finding legal or illegal ways to get k. Thaksin back and him his money. It seems unlikely we'll have another coup, unless after the coming elections PTP/UDD would by accident win the right to form a new government and continue any move to get k. Thaksin back rather than come with ideas and policies to move the country forward. IMHO, just like your piece Edited March 21, 2011 by rubl

Amart! LOL Yes I can see your point! Thaksin and the other funders of the terrorist charged insurrection that led to so much death and destruction in BKK are certainly Prai! I mean really! It's not fair that an extra-constitutional caretaker government that had broken electoral law was displaced by a coup and then that TRT and its proxy party were disbanded for electoral fraud! It isn't fair that the billions of baht funding the reds by their generous Prai leaders were frozen! It certainly isn't right that Newin (obviously Prai!) jumped ship after PPP was disbanded for electoral fraud caught on film! (sarcasm off) Come on, this isn't about the "amart and Prai" and it never has been! PTP is the largest opposition group in Parliament but what have they done in the last 2+ years to help their constituents? How many of their MP's are from a different family then the MP's that controlled their region 20 years ago? This is about one group of elite fighting another group of elite. MaiChai
I think its rather depressing how 'gutter' the politics are in Thailand. It really reflects on the quality of people who run or aspire to run the country. It such a shame because generally Thai people are such warm, friendly and generous people. Thats why most of us are here, but its so sad to seem how much of a sham politics are here.

Thaksin wins some of them while we have the current government prophetic words... as you've mentioned, here's another one the very next day. And we wonder why other court cases take so long. This one will suck dry a lot of time... PAD Members Report to Chaiyaphum Court for Defamation Suit Filed by Thaksin The People's Alliance for Democracy core leaders went to Chaiyaphum Provincial Court for a court hearing on the defamation charges filed against them by former Prime Minister Thaksin Shinawatra. The People's Alliance for Democracy, or PAD, core leaders Chumlong Srimuang, Piphob Thongchai, Somsak Kosaisuk, Somkiet Pongphaibul along with New Politics Party Secretary-General Suriyasai Katasila and representatives from ASTV and Thaiday Dot Com, went to Chaiyaphum Provincial Court to answer questions in the defamation lawsuit filed by former Prime Minister Thaksin Shinawatra. The suit named PAD core member Sondhi Limthongkul and eight others for their roles in the 193-day PAD protest. Many PAD supporters showed up at the Court in a show of support. During the questioning, PAD leaders, ASTV and Thaiday Dotcom representatives denied all of the allegations against them. Lawyers from both sides have asked the Court to commence the judicial process for the plaintiff's 16 witnesses and the defendant's 20 witnesses. The lawyers have agreed to allow the questioning to be held at Bangkok's Criminal Court for the convenience of the witnesses. One of PAD core leaders, Chumlong disclosed that all of the PAD members are denying the allegations against them and are prepared to fight the case. -- Tan Network 2011-03-
