Where To Stay In Vientiane For Visa-Run?

Featured Replies

Can someone recommend a good hotel to stay at in Vientiane, LAOS? ( Economy prices and clean) I'm going there to get my Tourist Visa.

Are there any websites that are good for booking??? Thanks...

I was in Vientiane a few days ago. There are plenty of guest houses just down from the Thai Embassy. We stayed in a small hotel, nothing fancy at all only 400 Baht/night, cant remember the name of the place though! I wouldn't worry about booking anything just turn up. If your stuck there are countless taxi drivers swarming around outside the Embassy I'm sure they could help you out!

Thanks for the info, but I just booked through AGODA.com... too late... I found one for 25 USD a night. Staying 2 nights at NEW LAO PARIS HOTEL, so no biggie. Note: if you book through AGODA.com and want to CANCEL, it is 15 USD charge..

Next time, if I go again I'll just show up try the 400 baht.

Inner City is a good hotel right across from the beach and a good rooftop bar next door.

$27 with free breakfast on Agoda.

Nice to sit on the river in the afternoons with some snacks, cold Beer Lao and just people watch.

And Agoda is a great website with qulity service.

Over the years they have let me do some cancelations without charging me a fee.

you already booked, but here is where I stayed a month ago. Doung Pra Seuth Hotel, very clean, free breakfeast. Really nice staff. Free wifi in the room. 800B per night right down the street from the Thai embassy which came in really handy as I was missing a paper from my company and was able to walk down to the hotel and have it faxed to me within 10 minutes i was back at the embassy.

website is www.dounangpraseuthhotel.com tel: +856 21 285 255, place looks like it's new. again great staff.

Since the original poster has already found his hotel in Vientiane, I just want to comment that I was there last month and was really amazed at the completed river park project. I was there over the weekend and it was really fantastic to stroll along the river without vendors or tuk tuk dirvers and see so many people enjoying the park. Great job, especially for a communist regime !

they have completed it all already?^

Very surprised at that so soon, they said 2 years when i was there.

i've stayed there before, it's a decent enough hotel. clean, friendly staff, good location and a very good french restaurant downstairs in the lobby.

Family Hotel is just up the road from the fountain. Prices around $30, but in a brand new building. Super clean though kinda smallish rooms. (Good hotel, though their website is fraudulently advertising Queen beds when they are truly just singles)

Check Tripadvisor.com for good reviews and even some pics. Though most hotels on the site (or Agoda or Lonely Planet for that matter) seem to start at $25 or $30/night.

For any true budget places you need to search the forums or go off the beaten path. Or like other commenter said, just show up and see what you can find.

Mixay Guesthouse and their new Paradise guesthouse nearby are very OK. Professional management, clean rooms for 440 baht. Incl. simple hotel breakfast but no tv or fridge.

The Mixay is close enough to the Mekong river to connect with the Thai phone signal*, the other sometimes but not all the time.

* be sure to set your phone on Operator Selection: Manual (to avoid unwanted expensive roaming)

Highly recommend: Mekong Sunsine Hotel, at the end of the river road: not far from where the Mekong River Commission (MRC) building is.

Just stayed there March 23,23.

800 baht per night, free breakfast. Free internet in the lobby (performance varies). In room TV with HBO, CNN, etc.

Clean, friendly staff. Strong little air-con unit: if you want to be very cold, you can.

Downside for some (?): relatively further away from the Thai consular services building than other places listed here.

There is a Laos night-club next door, but the noise is pretty well muffled, imho: perhaps more tolerable for an old coot like me since they are not playing western music (no screaming guitars, no angry hip-hip rappers).

And often not to many other guests, the times I have stayed there.

good luck, ~o:37;
