After you get married your wife has to register at her place of birth right? Is it the marriage or the name change..?

Either way, is there a time limit to do this in.. I mean, could the married be nulled if you didnt register in a certain time?

Anyone know of the thai law website in English?

Could this be a cheap divorce for me?

If she wishes to change her name, then this has to be done at the Amphur where she is registered (usually, but not always, where she was born).

The changing of names is not compulsory.

She does not have to register the marriage as this has already been done at the Amphur in which you got married, therefore will not be nulled after any time lapse.

Its my understand the only legal marriage in Thailand is performed at the amphur. Man and woman to go amphur office and sign the necessary paperwork which will also be signed my two witnesses. You are then married.

If you were married at traditional Buddhist ceremony you are not legally married under the law.

For Thai law in English google: thailawonline

Indeed, ou need to go to court and file for a divorce for a divorce on the grounds of abondenment. If you don't now where she is, you have to make make an announcement in some news papers to try and notify her of the court procedure , making it more lenghty and costly.

Trying to convince the family to let her contact you migth be better. They might not want to see her name in the news paper. Divorce at the amphur is quick and doesn't require a lawyer (unless assets needs to be split, in which case it might be wise to have one. Assets include any debts).
