Former Egyptian President Mubarak in hospital after heart-attack

2011-04-13 05:12:24 GMT+7 (ICT)

EL NOUR, EGYPT (BNO NEWS) -- Former Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak on Tuesday was rushed to a hospital after suffering a minor heart-attack, Dream TV reported.

Mubarak, who ruled in Egypt for three decades, was admitted in the Sharm el-Sheikh International Hospital. He is in intensive care and is accompanied by his wife, Suzanne, and his daughters-in-law.

The former president was scheduled to appear before authorities to be questioned over financial and power abuse charges in South Sinai. He recently received a invitation from Jordan in order to receive medical care.

However, Egyptian military authorities denied the request as Mubarak continued under house arrest at his Red sea residence. Doctors said that the former leader might need a week in hospital to recover.

Mubarak began his long regime in 1981. Earlier this year, the military council took control of Egypt after he stepped down following weeks of anti-government protests by crowds calling for greater democracy and respect of human rights.
