I understand that when making a visa application you need to submit original documents.

I've read in various threads about people receiving their documents back nearly immediately on submission. Is it the case that if I go with my wife to VFS in person to submit the visa application they will do a quick check of what is being submitted, see that there are authentic copies of the original documents and hand back the originals there and then ?

I'm asking because if they give the originals back straight away then it would influence whether I would go with my wife to submit the visa application.

They do not just check them and hand them back you need to submit the application with copies and originals and pay the appropriate visa fee. Can you imagine the chaos if people walked in asked them to go through the paper work & then said we will go away and think about it.

The UK/BA will return the originals once they have processed your application.

Feel free to contact me for (free advice) I am currently in the UK.

I think you misunderstood my question.

Of course I expect that you submit the application and supporting documents. What I was asking was, while you are there do they verify that the copies are proper copies of the original documents then return the originals to you before processing the application.

That was my (mis)understanding from some posts I had read. It seemed a possibility because it doesn't take a lot of effort to compare an original and a photocopy of a birth certificate, for example.

Never mind, Thanks for answering my question.

The VAC are merely a sorting office although one would think they are processing the visas themselves at times laugh.gif.

However I would advise you give them original documents + copies it would help if you explained which visa you are applying for also ?

But such things as an original marriage certificate would be required with most applications.

We were at the VFS Bangkok yerterday (4 May ) submitting documents. All original documents, including bankbooks, divorce cert, birth cert, were retained.

HOWEVER...Land Chanote and Tabien Baan copies were verified and originals were returned.

NB. Last year the bankbooks were returned on submission, not so this year.
