Russian teen rescued after being chained-up by father

MOSCOW (BNO NEWS) -- A Russian teenager has been freed after being chained up by her father for nearly a week to 'teach' her a lesson, local media reported on Wednesday.

The local television station RT reported on Wednesday that the 17-year-old girl had been chained-up to a wall after her parents found out that she had been missing school and discovered an empty pack of medicine, leading them to believe that she had been using drugs.

According to police, RT reported, the father of the girl used a chain to secure his daughter to a wall, with one end secured to the wall and the other end wrapped around her neck, giving her just one centimeter (0.4 inch) to move.

The parents reportedly told police that their actions were supposed to be an 'educational measure' to teach their daughter a lesson. They said she was allowed to go to the bathroom and had access to food while she was chained-up.

After five days, however, the girl managed to reach her cell phone and sent a text message to a friend saying she was being held captive by her father. The friend then informed police, who freed her.

RT said police are investigating whether or not the teenager had used drugs, although there were no obvious signs of a drug addiction. Police are also considering criminal charges against the father.

The report did not indicate where in Russia the incident took place.
