Anywhere To Freedive Spearfish Near Samui?

Hi all,

I live on Samui and I'd like to try freedive spear fishing. Is there anywhere on Samui, Phang Ngan or Tao that offers freedive spearfishing?

Thought that was not allowed, could be wrong. Can someone please elaborate?

I think it is only banned in marine parks. There are a few spear fishers here on Samui. it is frowned on by a lot of people. Nothing really around Samui. A little off KPG and some good spots around Tau. There is also some good spots around Khanom so I'm told as well. There are a few big game fishing companies on Samui that might take you along ? Mr Tu's is one that comes to mind.

Basically no spearing in marine parks and popular dive sites and be sensible with what you shoot.

Some people object to spearing but infact if done responsibly then it is very sustainable way to get your dinner.

I'm waiting for winds to swing SW, water is clearer in Samui then and on the right day if you know where to go some good fish can be had on reefs that can be swum from the beach.

Not sure what water is like at moment, but there's defo a few options locally.

I havn't been on Thai visa for ages, actually was just dreaming about the wind changing to sw and start if spearing season from the beach. Did a google search and found this.........

I'm living on Koh Phangan and have been freediving for a while here.

I've recently bought a Speargun and it would be cool to find some like-minded people to go with
