The Andaman Club, Ranong

Recommended Posts

There is a thread running in the Hua Hin section about doing a visa run to The Andaman Club, Ranong. Its just a 4 or 5 hour drive from Hua Hin and I have to do a border bounce in a couple weeks.... I have never been there before and was thinking of making a break out of it for a few days.

The website sells it pretty well - it looks real nice. I will be going alone though and so my question is, will there be stuff do do apart from lazing around the pool? Ill take my golf clubs with me and i guess ill be hanging around the pool and stuff... In the evening I wouldnt mind a few beers and a laugh, is there anything happening in the evening there or is it real quiet?

Also the rooms seem a little on the steep side.... 3500 Baht for a standard, 15,000 Baht for a suite. Are there any deals to be had on that rate?

Thanks

CO

The Hotel & island where it is situated - DEAD as !!!!! - I've been twice & that was 2 more time than I want to - do Andaman, get stamp, come back on same ferry

There is a casino, but never saw & I suppose if a few went & made a night of it then it might be OK

On second trip I think I saw 3 'guests' kicking about the hotel

Just my view though jap.gif

Thanks for the heads up - it sounds pretty naff. If it is that dead I guess ill just do a same day bounce. Shame though.... Looks like a nice place to smash the golf and have a few beers at night. No point if its a ghost town though.

The hotel is nice, but the 2 times I've been there - I'm glad I was leaving within the hour !! Possibly more golfers (maybe that's where they all were !!) than pool bathers. When you get boat across ask for it to wait & you will be back in Ranong/Andaman within 1 hr. If you stop on island then maybe 2 - 1/2 hrs - ok for drink & mosey around jap.gif

Visa run through Andaman Club is quick and hassle free.

However, if you want to stay the night in Burma you could take a longtail boat from Ranong,

they leave from a peer by the Thai Immigration Office close to the fish market.

The boats take you to Victory Point in Burma, a small city.

Not wild, but more to do there than in the Andaman Club.

If you just want a hassle free visa stamp then the Andaman is the way to go. if you want to make a night of it then head off on a long tail and do it yourself. it isn't the liveliest of towns but sure beats the Andaman club for things to do and see.

I spent the night at Andaman Club on a number of occasions, and always enjoyed it. Sure, there is no rocking nightlife till 5 AM, but do we really need that every night? There is a gorgeous swimming pool, and a few excellent restaurants, the open air one is not expensive. If you want a few beers, there is a karaoke style pub, but it might be more fun hanging out in the room with the slot machines, and roulette, horse racing, dice rolling and so on machines. You get a discounted room rate if you call them beforehand, 0818942583-6. Only 2000 up to 3000 Baht including breakfast, depending on promotions they frequently have, a pittance for a five star hotel.

In the morning they offer a roundtrip transfer to Victoria Point/Kawthaung so that you can look around there for a few hours, I definitely found it worthwile.

If you are on your own and gambling is not your thing,I would say forget it.

The only people you are likely to meet are hardcore slotheads and dirty weekenders, neither of which will be up for a few beers and a laugh.
