SAMARA, RUSSIA (BNO NEWS) -- At least five people were killed and dozens were injured on Friday in a fire in the southern Russia city of Samara, RIA Novosti reported.

The fire broke out in an apartment block, killing five people and injuring 39 others. Around eight people, including one child, were hospitalized.

The cause of the fire has not yet been established.

Around 15,000 people die in fires across Russia every year. In December 2009, nearly 150 people were killed during a fire in a night club.
