Good Doctor In Phuket

Never used him, but friends have recommended a Dr Chusak in the Kata area for 'general ailments'.

Maybe someone else can give you better contact / location details than I have.

His surgery is half way along Tiana Road, that's the road from the traffic lights near the PTT gas station to the beach road. He is well known as a good general doctor, so good that the queues are often quite large. Another place in Patong that I would recommend is Dr Aryia on Soi Ketsup just past the main entrance to the Horizon Hotel.

Thanks, I will give them a try. I have been to Bangkok Phuket Hospital before, but you never know what doctor you will get and have never been happy with any of them. It is not stomach problem. Possibly prostrate but not sure and would need tests.

Dr. Chusak is very good. If he doesn't know, he will recommend a specialist. I went to see him two years ago and again last year. He remembered me, didn't charge me either time and I'm now seeing a very good Rheumatologist at Phuket International that he said was the best. I would avoid Bangkok Phuket Hospital. They are way overpriced for really poor service with an attitude... At least from my experience.

Thanks for all your replies. I saw Dr Chusak today and was also very happy with him. He worked out my problem fast and was very professional.

In that case I would recommend Bangkok Phuket Hospital. To be honest there are good clinics all over Phuket but for a safe bet I would take BPH. It´s a bit pricy but if you want to be sure of the paperwork, quality of sterilization and doctors you should go there.

South is not like Bangkok when it comes to education or to quality, but as I said there are good clinics and you can choose any you want but if you are hessitating and don´t want to make a bet then BPH it is.

Dr. Chusak is not at Phuket International Hospital. He is in Kata. Read the thread, Livinginkata tells you where he is. He didn't charge me, because we just talked for a couple of minutes and the first time he said he couldn't do anything more than I was already doing. When I went back a year later, he remembered me and said that Chikungunya shouldn't have lasted this long and that he thought I had some type of arthritis and to go see the Rheumatologist he knows at Phuket International.

I know this is a bit off-topic, but I gather most 'top' doctors in Phuket actually work at the 'public' hospital and spend some hours at the Phuket International and Bangkok Phuket hospital, where of course, a large profit can be made.

It doesn't actually help to know this as nobody who can afford private care would choose to stay at the Wachira (?) hospital....

If anybody knows this to be incorrect, I would be v interested to hear.

I think Jim is talking about Dr Sumyos as he is reputed to be the top rheumatoglist on Phuket island. He works 2 morning a week at Phuket International and one morning at Wachira. I'm charged 400 baht for a consulation at International, but now that he has opened his own clinic on Patak Road (Karon Clinic) with his Dr wife, it's easier for me to visit there and he only charges me 200 baht/consulation.

Where on Patak Rd is this clinic ?

From Wat Karon it's about 1 Km on the way to Kata, right side, on the corner of the entrance to the Access Resort. Open 09.00 - 13.00. Note that Dr Sumyos away on Sunday, Thursday, & Friday at other hospitals. Best to make an appointment to catch him.

Whilst that's interesting to know if you're looking for a rheumatologist, I'm more interested to learn whether its true that the 'top' doctors work at the Wachira and spend a small amount of time at the Phuket Int and Bangkok/Phuket.

As I said before, it won't make a huge amount of difference as I'd rather have my teeth pulled than go to the Wachira, but it would be interesting to know and perhaps I may consider the Phuket Int rather than the Bangkok/Phuket.
