Over 200 Guns seized in pre-election Police Checkpoints in Pattaya

PATTAYA: -- A set of five pre-election checkpoints on the Sukhumvit Road in the Pattaya and Jomtien areas have seized more than 200 firearms since they began on 10th May. To recognize the efforts of the individual Police Stations who worked at the checkpoints, Police Lieutenant General Tanae, the Region 2 Police Commissioner, visited the Na-Jomtien Police Checkpoint in the early hours of Saturday Morning to thank the officers.

Pattaya is getting more and more like the American wild west every day!

I always hated all the mud slinging right before elections in the US. Thailand has added an all new dimension to this. "Gun Slinging". I have to admit that when one kills the opposition it does make for a smoother transition into power, and much cheaper.

This has to be an exagerration, surely. 200 guns in 26 days? Are they on sale somewhere?

Of all the headlines which could affect Pattaya tourism, this must rank way up there for stupidity. The police are trying to make themselves look good, wonder what the average westerner holidaymaker would think of it?
