Suicide attack kills one outside Islamabad bank

ISLAMABAD, PAKISTAN (BNO NEWS) -- A suicide attack in Pakistan's capital of Islamabad on Monday killed one person and injured two others, officials said.

The explosion occurred in front of a bank in Islamabad's I-8 Markaz, Inspector General of Police Wajid Ali Durrani told The Nation, adding that the fatal victim was a security guard named Muhammad Bashir, who tried to stop the suicide bomber from entering the bank.

Durrani said the bomber tried to force his way into the bank without allowing the security guard to search and screen him. As a result, he blew himself up.

All of the bank's staff did not suffer any wounds from the blast, although two others were reported injured. Police emergency teams and Rescue-1122 arrived at the scene minutes after the blast, Senior Superintendent of Police Tahir Alam Khan said, as investigative operations are currently underway.

On Saturday night, a suicide attack in the Khyber Super Market in Peshawar killed at least 39 people, including two journalists. In addition, over 100 others were reported injured.

The United States Embassy in Pakistan condemned the terrorist bombings. "This was a cruel and vicious attack deliberately designed to maim and kill innocent people," the Embassy said. "No religion or legitimate political philosophy justifies the indiscriminate slaughter of innocents. The terrorists who perpetrated this brutality are beyond the pale of civilization."
