I thought King Kong was excellent. Well done to Peter Jackson for making it a tribute to the original but thrilling for modern audiences. The few critics who said the first hour was boring or unnecessary don't know what they're talking about. It was good to learn about the characters before the two hours of action got rolling. Good on Jackson for using one of the best actresses in the business to play the heroine.

And a big rasberry for the couple next to me at the Emporium cinema who discussed the movie non-stop for its entire 3-hour length.  :D

Long and boring. 2nd hr was the best - 1st was sleepy material and last was well seen it before. :D I think Kong would have been better if they made it modern day. Apparently not doing that well either, lucky to be around in a few weeks time.

Save your dosh and see Chronicles of Narnia - much better than Kong. :o

what load of nackers :D

Agreed, and I haven't even seen the film yet. :D

I've been watching most of the action scenes at the video stalls in the malls though, and quite frankly the effects looked good but the acting from the leading actress was diabolical. Not her fault as she's only doing as to what the director asked her to do. Her acting looked like it was straight out of the silent movies.

And come on...... being confronted and chased by carnivorous prehistoric dinosaurs through a jungle, crawling through rotten fallen logs, sliding down muddy embankments trying to avoid being eaten....only afterwards to look like she'd just climbed out of bed? Yeah, sure.

There wasn't so much as a twig or a leaf in her flowing blonde hair and neither did she show a bead of sweat from running through a humid jungle. Nor was there a scratch or a dirty scuff mark on her skin. :D

And that scene where she's juggling rocks to get King Kong's attention. Pathetic.

You could blantantly she from her actions that the rocks were later super-imposed. :D

This film critic gives it the thumbs down. :D

:D

Ay Gazza... shigh

Don´t you understand, hollywood actress are different from any woman and men...you see they never sweat, their make up never disapear, their hair is always perfect, during their periods they don´t feel miserable or their bodies don´t inflate...I even think that they can get pregnant but they don´t have their period at all.

they are undestructible,strong,femenine,sensitive,intelligent,funny...

so I don´t understand why you don´t like the beautiful blode in King Kong...

This year seems to have less movies with quality I guess. I can hardly remember watching any "class" movies... Most movies released were of average standard ... or is it that I missed the good quality ones???

Not King Kong thats for sure - absolute rubbish!! and too long.....

I do like the blonde in the film but I just think her acting was awful.

I would actually love to marry any blonde Hollywood actress because if there was ever a four-eyed bug monster from Mars somewhere in my house she could just walk around backwards looking for it until she bumped into it.

Or, if we were ever chased by rabid soi dogs I'd know that she'd trip over a tree root in the road and get eaten alive thereby allowing me to escape.

And...I would never have to carry around car keys because she'd have the ability to simply get in and drive off regardless of the car being parked in a ghetto with the key in the ignition.

And if she was involved in a 200mph head on collision, her lifeless body would look so serene and peaceful lying in the road half a mile away. There may be a little trickle of blood coming from the corner of her mouth and maybe, just maybe, her hair might be slightly unruffled from smashing headfirst through the windscreen. :D

Ahhh! the advantages of marrying a blonde Hollywood actress are numerous. :D

I had a chance to see Syriana on a brief trip back to the U.S. this week. It was very, very good. Between Good Night, and Good Luck and "Syriana", George Cloony had a great 2005.

Oscar nominations are 31 January 2006.

Award show is 5 March 2006 (so Monday 09:00 6 March here) hosted by Jon Stewart. Not sure if it is televised here?

Memoirs of a Geisha didn't have the impact of the book, but it wasn't bad. Having been to Japan many times, I had a hard time accepting the Chinese looks and accents of the three main actresses for the first half hour despite their excellent acting.

Narnia was good, but very much a kids movie. Excellent acting from the young stars. Just before the movie started there was a trailer for Mission Impossible 3, which seems to have had a troubled history. The second director on the project is known for the Alias TV series, which I didn't like at all.

Don't think it was released last year but Downfall is really good. It's about the last days of Hitler in his bunker in Berlin. Excellent acting, grim war scenes and no silly Hollywood ending. They have it in Pantip.

Finally saw "The Constant Gardener", great flic as most have commented, a bit off here and there but best film I've seen in a while.

Anyone seen "Hostel" yet? It's not going to win any awards but it's a h3lluva movie... I usually LOL at silly horror films at their sheer stupidity/predictability (texas chainsaw etc, etc). This thing made me cringe tho... :o

Walk the Line - Johnny Cash bio pic. (really good - surprised how much I liked it)

Hostel - I agree bit of a shocker, but I was glued to the tele when I watched it on dvd. Eli Roth lad has made two well done/quirky pieces of horror. (Cabin Fever the other one)

Descent - 6girl cavers trapped in a cave and they are not alone. Perhaps one of the best horror flicks I've seen in some time. Claustrophobic and downright gory.
