Wanted red-shirt leader Arisman Pongruangrong may surrender to the authorities tomorrow to face charges in connection with unrest, riots and arson in Bangkok in the middle of last year.

Arisman had his lawyer call the Department of Special Investigation (DSI) to discuss a possible surrender. DSI director-general Tarit Pengdith said yesterday that he received a call from someone who claimed to be Arisman's lawyer two weeks ago.

The man asked about the DSI's stance and procedures if Arisman was to turn himself in. But there had been no progress about that yet. However, a source from the red-shirt movement yesterday said Arisman - who allegedly fled the country after dispersal of the red shirts' rally in May last year - was likely to turn himself in tomorrow.

Hhhhmmm, convenient timing. Wait until amnesty talks are on the table, then turn yourself in, and get absolved of charges in a month. At least he could have done his one year like a man first.......where's the backbone???? Maybe he'll make a good minister????

Hi .

I dont think that amnesty will cover Terrorism or Lese Majeste charges the only chance all the Red leaders

have if Thaksin appoints the Judge as before.

It better include amnesty from Lese Majeste charges! LM laws, and how they are (were?) currently interpreted and enforced is one of the main stains on Thailand's human rights record right now. (Says Human Rights Watch) A common tactic by the army against anyone they didn't agree with was to file an LM charge. You can't have an open discussion in society that way.

As for terrorism, you need to go look that up in a dictionary. And while you have it open anyway, look up war crimes.

You were doing so well, and then stepped on the doo-doo. War crimes? so the BKK uprising was a declared war, or an armed insurgency? As for the terrorism, I wouldn't like to be the one in the dock when they play that "bring your bottles" speech. He just about talked himself into "Advance to Go" for his next re-incarnation.

Too late for that. Relations, friends of Thaksin, Red Shirts, and UDD folks have already taken the main ministerial jobs. Arisman will be used to keep the Red Shirt movement burning in order to fight the anti-government demonstrators who will appear in a month or 3.

I agree that the abuse of lese majeste laws should stop, but people should remember that it was a tactic also used by Thaksin himself.

If you question the "terrorism" charges against Arisman, you might want to listen to the speech he made on the Red-Shirt stage calling upon them to fill a million bottles full of gasoline and then turn Bangkok into a "sea of fire" (it iseasily found on youtube). You might then wish to remember what happened all across Bangkok in the immediate aftermath of the protest being broken up. I think inciting mass arson in an urban area fits the definition of "terrorism".

I think we know that a panel of Thaksin's judges - friends will decide that Arisman is innocent. The only question is how many days it will take for the panel to make this decision.

My argument applies no matter who uses it. Same for defamation and all that, also a past favorite of Dr. Thaksin. Politicians should have thicker skin, and people should have freedom of speech.

Maybe he does not know that he is about to be served up on a silver platter.

Maybe its time Thaivisa dumped some of the more useless news services?

Arisaman will end up in jail. How long? Who knows ... but he'll spend some time there. He has several serious charges against him from 2008, 2009, and 2010 and it'll get him. Changing the entire Supreme Court won't happen and if the courts are tampered with too much it'll bite PTP way too hard. Reconciliation at sword-point won't work.

He will probably try to wait out an amnesty, but I suspect that any amnesty will not cover some of the things he did (and was filmed doing!) That he has lied repeatedly and is just another fugitive will bite him too, he doesn't have the clout that the other fugitive that has lied to and about the courts has.

It depends on how TAN Network got it's information assuming they got it from somewhere AND how they vet for accuracy as far as possible in the world of news 'flashes'.

The two items on k. Arisman may very well be correct, just a change of mind, like the 'Thaksin Trade ambassador' flash and contradictions and denials. Maybe someone just pointed out to k. Arisman, he was not on the PT party list, didn't vote, so without parliamentary immunity he might very well be incarcerated without bail having been on the run for more than a year ;)

I've always felt that the biggest impact of the 2006 coup was the breaking of the seeming influence Thaksin had on the judiciary. They go their own way and always seem to go to great lengths to explain thenselves clearly. He'll do some jail, without a doubt.

This guy Arisman has a hide thicker than a buffalo.

From Thai News:

"ผมไม่รู้ว่าตัวเองทำอะไรผิด"

Translates as:

"I had no idea I was doing anything wrong."

Story here.

I can't see Thaksin being too happy if he were to go on trial and starts blabbing. The Seh Daeng treatment could be getting a rework.

Arisman was a great singer and he is proving to be a shrewd politician.

Give the man a ministerial post!

Ministerial post? You must be taking the piss?

The only post this cretin deserves is DE fence post.
