Good to see that they support the terrorist Jatuporn in his time of need. Never know when you will require an experienced rabble rousing arsonist!

Jatuporn is a terrorist? He's an accused terrorist, not convicted of anything. The Abhisit government hasn't been able to convict him on terrorism charges for over a year, so its doubtful anyone ever. And considering that the Abhisit-appointed EC members just approved his MP status, I think that says a lot ...

The regime established by the coup is falling apart and the rats are leaving the sinking ship

Even Sonthi, the coup-maker, wants to part of the Puea Thai government.

It's not the governments job to convict people. That's the job of the courts. The yellow shirts have been convicted of anything yet. The red shirts haven't been convicted of attacking Abhisit in 2007. The courts move slowly in Thailand. Nothing to do with the government.

And you still can't get your facts straight. Abhisit did appoint the EC.

See my quote above. My facts are straight. I said that Abhisit did appoint the EC.

The EC's decision to defer to the courts is well founded. The EC does not have the authority to decide upon constitutional law. The EC has a mandate to comply with and enforce existing election laws. However, where there is doubt or the potential for serious conflict, it is best to allow the existing legal mechanisms to respond. The EC is doing what a responsible electoral office would do and that is to obtain a decision from the body that has the ultimate say. This is how a civil society functions. If the courts rule that the MP cannot take office, then so be it.

And if the courts rule that a PM is corrupt................................? You wouldn't go double standards on us, would you?

Poll Panel Endorses Jailed Red-shirt MP's Status

The poll panel has endorsed the status of jailed red-shirt leader Jatuporn Promphan as a Pheu Thai party-list MP before forwarding the matter to the House speaker and the Constitution Court to decide whether he would be disqualified for not voting.

Election Commissioner in charge of political party affairs Sodsri Sattayatham said that the Election Commission, or EC, has validated the status of jailed red-shirt leader Jatuporm Promphan as Number Eight party-list MP-elect of the Pheu Thai Party.

Sodsri said the EC agreed with its legal division on that according to Article 101 of the Constitution's organic law on political party, Jatuporm has lost his membership of the Pheu Thai Party since July 3 after he failed to turn up to vote.

However, no law gives the poll panel nor the Supreme Court an authority to withdraw his candidacy .

Sodsri went on to say that the EC has approved the election result for Jatuporn and will forward the matter to the House speaker after July 12.

The House speaker will have to pass on the case to the Constitution Court to consider whether Jatuporn's MP status should be terminated in line with Article 10 of the Constitution's organic law on the Election Commission.

Poll Panel Yet to Endorse Red-shirt MP

UPDATE : 7 July 2011

The Election Commission says its verdict on the status of a detained red-shirt MP-elect will be released next Tuesday when the body will meet to decide on the status of some 50 other election winners who face complaints against their qualifications. It also says the entire poll results must be officially endorsed 30 days after the election.

Election Commission, or EC, member in charge of poll management Prapan Naikowit said his panel’s legal committee is going through the qualifications of all MP-elects and complaints against them.

Prapan said roughly 50 election winners have seen complaints filed against them for violating the poll law or being unqualified. The EC should endorse the rest of the MP-elects on Tuesday.

He insisted the endorsement of the status of all MP-elects must be completed within 30 days after the election, so that the Lower House can convene.

Prapan stated the complaint against Pheu Thai MP-elect Jatuporn Prompan, one of the red-shirt core leaders still held on remand after the revocation of their bail on terrorism charges, will also be decided on Tuesday.

He said Jatuporn has not been disqualified as an MP-elect yet as the panel must look into whether the Pheu Thai Party's regulations allow members detained by the court’s order to contest an election under its banner.

Prapan went on to say it is still uncertain which MP-elects will be given yellow or red cards as the verdict must rely on evidence.

Meanwhile, Pheu Thai MP-elect Nutthawut Saikua, also a red-shirt core leader, visited the EC office to ask the panel to issue a document stating that Jatuporn has not been disqualified as an MP-elect yet to support a fresh appeal for his bail.

The EC, however, turned down Nutthawut’s petition given it has not released an official verdict on the matter yet, but suggested Jatuporn use the existing law to justify the appeal for his release with the court.

"I will not surrender now. I wonder if I did anything wrong. As a citizen, I joined the protest to call for democracy," he said in a phone interview. "I am sure I didn't do anything bad to the country."

So what was he doing on stage, acting in a theatrical performance?
Sadly, I shan't be surprised if, for example, Arisman becomes a minister in the not-too-distant future.

Jem

Why are you bothered? What's your problem? Still clinging to that stuff about the redshirts are terrorists. Freedom fighters/terrorists.

You really want to live in a police state eh?

You mean since the coup things just definitely got better here?

Unfortunately the thai disagree.

I don't give a dam_n what american financiers like Goldman Sachs think. They've screwed the western world. I'm waiting for the fbi to actually indict anyone over subprime etc.

The system got busted. I came to live here in Bangkok. I'm proud to say that I had a revelatory experience coming here. I'm still a capitalist but boy I'm with the thai farmers unions. They're the heart of the redshirts and they've been around a long time and Thaksin used the ISo laws he enacted on them.

Many redshirts don't like or trust him.

Around here almost every third car is a merc, bmw, porsche.

Our former neighbour we followed once in his porsche; an italian factory owner, married to a general's daughter. He drove down narrow streets at 70 mph+.

Arrogant sod.

As to Arisman "in the heat of the moment" he and others advocated burning down Bangkok if the army attacked again the redshirts. This after 1000 people had been shot up and 20 dead. Get it! That doesn't mean he planned to burn it down.

Or like in UK burn down Oxford street. Bangkok is a huge city.

Redshirts went to Channel 3 TV studios and tried to burn it. Next door a BMW showroom was left untouched.

Others were involved in Centralworld burning and let's hope all will be revealed in time.

This blatant lie will be removed by the mods, I hope. In the mean time:

"On January 29, Arisman Pongruengrong, another hardcore red leader, told a red rally: "We'll have an appointment next time. If they are going to crack down on us, we don't need to prepare anything much. Just bring along your cups or bottles, which you can fill up with at least one litre of gasoline. If one million of us come to Bangkok, we'll have one million litres of gasoline. I can assure you that Bangkok will turn into a sea of fire.""

2010-01-29, this BEFORE the major clash on April 10th when grenades dropped on the military, MiB appeared and in total 21 got killed.

Election Panel Undecided on Detained Red Shirt Leader's MP Status

UPDATE : 8 July 2011

The Election Commission denies having endorsed detained red-shirt leader Jatuporn Phromphan's MP status.

The panel says it will likely announce the official list of MPs next week.

Election Commission or EC Chairman Apichart Sukhakkanont said the official ballot outcome is expected to be released by July 12.

He added that the EC board will use the same guideline as in the 2007 election for reviewing the qualifications of elected candidates.

Meanwhile, Apichart noted that there have been complaints made against 50 MPs-elect.

He said the board has yet to look into the complaints and it expects the validation process to be completed before the original deadline of August 1.

As for the MP status of red-shirt leader Jatuporn Phromphan, who has been held in remand on terrorist charges, Apichart dismissed reports that his agency has resolved to endorse him as an MP.

The EC released the vote count,

but not yet the official validation of each elected MP.

Just Nuttawat trying to pre-empt the EC in pubic perceptions.

This is his opinion, and nothing else.

You're wrong. They just did. Check the news.

Not so when I wrote it.

And seems not so now in spite of Nuttawats attempt to intimidate the EC at their offices.

And no doubt, after Arismans invasion of their offices last year, ANY redshirt leader showing up would have the direct appearance of intimidation. Glad they stood up to him this time.

"Reconciliation" at its finest. At least they're consistent in their tactics.

You know Thaksin's been kicking himself for 5 years that he didn't think of this mob idea back in 2005.
