webfact
Five nabbed in Thai fake sex drugs swoop: police BANGKOK, August 2, 2011 (AFP) - Bangkok authorities arrested five men in a crackdown on sex drugs sold illegally to tourists in streets around the city's red light districts, Thai police said Tuesday. Raids on July 25 and 28 netted several fake or unlicensed drugs such as Viagra, which is normally prescribed for men suffering from erectile dysfunction. "We have received complaints from the public that stalls explicitly sell fake drugs to tourists in the evenings," said Colonel Paitoon Khumsraprom of the consumer protection police. In total five men, two Myanmar nationals and three Thais, were arrested in the two raids, carried out in the China Town and Nana areas of the city. They were charged over offences including the illegal sale of drugs and selling fake and unlicensed drugs. If convicted they could face up to 20 years in prison. Police released a list of items seized in the operation, which were estimated to be worth a total of 500,000 baht ($16,800). These included various types of Viagra, "Waman penis enlarging tablet", Kamagra oral jelly -- in banana, apple and blackcurrant flavours -- and an item intriguingly listed as "Night fire heartily burnable lady's intense emotion". "This has tarnished Thailand's tourism image," said an official from the Thai Food and Drug Administration, which also took part in the raids. -- (c) Copyright AFP 2011-08-
inzman
These guys were picked because they were competing with the vendors the BIB protect. What about the other 20000 vendors selling the same crap on Suk?
bkkjames
So if they were selling legit viagra, willy wongas and other condiments outside of bangkok's red light districts, the city's repuation would at the very least "stood up" to expectations? OzMick
Interested to know how the valuation was appraised. It would seem it was based on the retailer's asking price before haggling. If as the OP states, the drugs were fake, what is their "worth" ? I suppose the damage to Thailand's tourist reputation must have something to do with past-his-prime gent who takes the pill/gel and still can't get it.................. no, best left to the imagination. tolsti
Does this mean I can get a refund on the Cialis tablets I purchased near Soi 11 last weekend? Or is it just that the whole area was so full of hooded black crows and tent makers challenges that nothing would work?
Cynthetic
THIS is what tarnished Thailands image? Jeez, at least the corrupt politician and police aren;t the culprits. "Yeah let;s bust the viagra stand and let the muggers, gold chain snatchers, yaba dealers carry on with thier day". "Oh, I hear they are selling dildos at another stall." "Excuse me 4 times outta jail, drug user rapist" "No need to stop robbing that farang, I just gotta get past to bust someone that is selling something for fun. And tell you not, they are bad people, they dont hang thier member, representing symbol from thier keychain/necklace. A real bad type of person" "Let's crack some shulls" The police here are a farce. If not corrupt, then totallt inept. And to the dealer, next time, save the hassel and pay off the pigs so that Thailands image will be as shinny as a polished turd. Nickynomates. I love it! Keep it up! pun and all

jfchandler
Why is it that pretty much every time the police make one of these porn DVDs or fake ED drug busts in lower Suk, many of street vendors they collar are said to be from Myanmar??? Do they have work permits? Formed Thai companies with 51% Thai ownership? Here on B business visas? Doing their 90 day reports? I'm kinda surprised to NOT hear the police say... there's no law in Thailand against selling fake Viagra.... But we're busting them for working without a valid work permit... same as they seem to always do with the scamster farangs who get popped. I just hope the local BIB or the BMA flatfoots came by to collect their weekly dosh from the vendors before they got hauled away.. Can't miss those payments, you know...
