checked the UKBA web site for Confirmation of the fee for the UK settlement Visa and the Visa application Fee is 40500 Baht, Today i thought i was on a good thing, thinking that i saved some money From the UKBA by the High exchange rate and Sold a Lot of UK pounds for 49.10 Baht.

I finally submitted the application form on line and Got a application complete Email telling me to book an appointment and that i need to pay 40,500.00 Baht and then i Printed off 2 Copy's and to my dismay, its states on the Visa application that the cost is 42120 Baht,, So which cost is the true cost and what can we do if the cost is higher?

the last time that i bought something and it showed a Ticket price and then showed a higher price at the checkout, i was Charged the lower price.

Any thoughts on what we can do, just pay the cheque for the lower price and wait for their reply? My wife will be in the Visa Office on her own.

As far as I am aware the old fee - 42,120 was at the exchange rate ( that the Embassy continued to use for a long, long time !) of 52 baht to the GBP. They very recently changed their exchange rate to 50 Baht to the GBP, and the current fee is 40,500 ( the cost in GBP is the same worldwide - 810 GBP). Our recent applications have been at the 40,500 fee.

The application fees page is showing, at the time of writing, 40500baht, effective from 8th August at an exchange rate of 50 baht to the pound.

Visa fees are set in sterling, but payable in local currency. The local fees are subject to change at any time due to changes in the consular exchange rate, but they are usually fairly quick at posting the new ones.

Unfortunately if your wife turns up at the VAC with a bank draft or cashier's cheque for the wrong amount she will be sent away to get a new one; even, I understand, if it is for too much!

All I can suggest is that you call the VAC on 02-800-8050 before obtaining the bank draft or cashier's cheque.

Edit:

Took too long to post, see post by VisaPlus above; he's the man on the spot!

When we went to Regent House to submit the papers for my partners UK visitor visa application, we had a cashier cheque from Kasikorn Bank Chiang Mai for the correct amount. However, when my she presented it, they would not accept it, saying that they wanted a cheque from "a bank in Bangkok" . No problem, they said, go downstairs to the bank in the foyer ( I think it's Siam Bank, but not sure) and get a cheque there and come back. It took about 25 mins to get the cheque due to some slow business customers getting served. She went back up stairs and back in...no problem.

On our experience I would suggest you get the cheque at Regent House. Also, the bank there seem to be fully aware of the Embassy charges.

If your bank account is held at a bank in Bangkok

You can pay the visa application fee by 'cashier’s cheque' or 'bank draft' from any bank made payable to 'The British Embassy Bangkok'. Bank charges for this service may vary. You should bring your bank draft or cashiers cheque with you when you visit the visa application centre to submit your application.

If your bank account is held at a bank outside of Bangkok

You can pay the visa application fee by 'bank draft' from any bank made payable to 'The British Embassy Bangkok'. Bank charges for this service will vary. You should bring your bank draft with you when you visit the visa application centre to submit your application

No idea why this is so.
