What Is A Demesne Please?

Featured Replies

I am familiar with the various types of chanoot. But can anyone please tell me what a demesne is, or more importantly what it means re being able to build on the land covered by it?

I am not trying to be funny here, but there is no such thing as "various types of chanoot".

Suggest you do a google search for something like, land title deeds Thailand, you may well find this site,

http://www.siam-legal.com/realestate/thailand-title-deeds.php

Do not make the mistake of confusing one type of deed for another, and on no account think they are all legally the same, they are not.

Some Thais equate a piece of paper as being a chanot, its not, other more unscrupulous vendors will play on the gullibilty of the purchaser.

Buyer beware, dont forget to examine the chanot for any outstanding loans recorded, make sure you are shown the marker posts, and dont believe the old chestnut, "chanot coming soon, buy now cheap price big profit for you".

Thanks. I'd already done that, but it gave me the standard definition. I am after what it means in Thailand re land and deeds. I suspect it is a piece of land where the only thing you can put on it is a buffalo, or two......

Thanks. I was using "chanote" too loosely - I meant that I had researched the various deeds, from basically being a squatter, up to where you could build on what you had. But demesne, in Thai usage, is not one I have encountered before. I suspect it falls below the lowest type of nor nor or por por or whatever.....

As far as I know there is no such thing as a "demesne" title deed or possessory rights in Thailand. However, there are at least 10 - 15 types of land titles floating around, but I have never seen a "demesne" referred to but squatter rights comes to mind..

It is a lease
