I'm getting ready to leave Penang, Malaysia and I'm trying to figure out if I must go through hat yai or if there are any buses that go directly to pattaya. I don't think there are any flights, which is fine.

Please advise.

edit: can take train also. plane tickets look a bit expensive.

No Idea about the Bus, but last time I went to Penang and back, I did use Air Asia. There is a Bus going from the Airport to Pattaya.

THe train from Butterworth to Bangkok is probably the best way. You can go from Bangkok to Pattaya by taxi or bus.

Hua Hin half way up the panhandle used to do mini buses 400 baht to Pattaya. Try Thaivisa east coast or whatever covers it

You might find it much cheaper to take a domestic flight from Hat Yai, which is only a short bus trip from Penang.
