Motorbike Accident Involving Lee Mcdonagh

Recommended Posts

Ok it's with great sadness that I report yet another motorbike accident involving an ex pat,

Lee McDonagh (not sure surmane is spelt correct) has been on the Island for many years now and is married to Gai and has a young daughter,

a lot of people will know Lee from the Maenam and Bangrak area.

On route home on friday night he was involved in a collision with a Songteow, after spending 1 night in a hospital on the ring road he was moved to nathon hospital Sat am,

it's looking ok for Lee as he was brought off the breathing aperatus today, the hospital can now proceed with other operations to repair facial damage as he's breathing for himself.

It go's without saying that as Lee had no insurance this is causing great financial difficulty,

hence this notification and appeal, M and M's Bar in Bangrak have kindly vaulonteered to host a fundraiser this Friday fron 4 pm,

Mario and Kwan are donating funds towards Lee's plight and are in no way profiting from this event, any bar owners in the Maenam area

who would like to have a whipround and drop it in to M and M's this friday I'm sure Lee and his family will appreciate it.

We all know the hazards of not wearing helmets and being here with no medical insurance. my parting sentence would be

IT COULD BE YOU.

Lee is from Manchester, mid thirties. He used to run Cocktails Bar with Gai in Bangrak. He's very well known and popular in Maenam and this has upset a lot of people.

It's a great idea to do this fundraiser and I will definitely try to get there on Friday. But if not, I will certainly leave a donation in one of his Maenam haunts. I'm sure Barbs or Jomar would be a good bet.

Many thanks for this post, Starcandle.

I knew a Lee that used to be in bangkok but moved/opened a bar in samui a few years back-youngish, very polite-was into mma?

Oh my............ I met him in May, where he told me to wear a helmet if I absolutely have to ride a bike ! He said he always drives a car, because of too many bike accidents !! I wish him all the best and I hope we can have a game of badminton again !!

Just an update on the bash down at M and M's.

D J Dean Lambert has kindly offered to spin the tunes free of charge, anyone not knowing "DEANO" should as he was one of the UK's leading D J's.

it sounds like its going to quite lively not to mention busy so for Lee and his family come along and enjoy an early starter from 4 pm.

Copied quotes from OPs original post.

'has been on the Island for many years'

'has a young daughter'

'It go's without saying that as Lee had no insurance'

Uneffin believable, talk about familiarity breeding contempt.

I hope this stands as a sober reminder to all the importance of insurance, who will be next ?

'this is causing great financial difficulty' No shit sherlock, take note all who have no insurance.

Well done all those involved with this fundraising event, but where do you draw the line?

Update from last nights fundraiser at M&M's. Firstly it was well attended and many friends, associates and workmates all turned up to help as best they could,

at this moment I am not sure how much was raised as I left at about 10pm.

I think it's only correct to thank a few people for their efforts and endeavour, Mario and Kwan from M&M's always good host's, Bum from Papa Joe's for donating the lovely pork,

Joe from Cork n Cask (curry specialist), D J Dean Lambert who can read a crowd and plays the right tunes, Big Tommy (Manchester), John from Premier Sports Bar and Jamie

for the original concept.

In reponse to the poster who ask's "where do you draw the line" well that's an individual answer, we all have different reasons to help one of our fellow

human beings.

I have met on this Island just about every kind of person imaginable (and unimaginable), some very wealthy and some living on the breadline, the guy's who are

here on the small wages prefer to live here and live frugally rather than go back to Europe and beyond and live on the bones of their arse.

rgs2001uk, I agree 100% that everone should

1/ have insurance

2/ wear a helmet

3/ not ride a bike pissed

4/ make every endevour to protect yourself and your family

now could you please go to katyb's post and have a look at Lee holding his daughter in the picture,

his daughter saw him yesterday with no teeth, shattered jaw, 2 depressed cheek bones, broken arm, broken ribs and punctured lung,

now "where do we draw the line" ?

where do you draw the line? personal responsibility.

how many TV members can honestly admit they have never driven without a helmet before, even if just down the road?

or driven after a few beers?

i would say NONE...............

i dont know how the accident happened, whether lee was drunk, popping to the shop or the driver was at fault !

Note, just yesterday, i went 800 metres up the road to get some food, and a Thai in a Hi Lux pulled out in front of me without looking, i was weaing a helmet, but these things happen so easily !

Insurance

if you work here, you get NAthon, which is for me a good hosptial, i also have an SCB card which gives you 25K instant cover at BKK hospital for treatment

But you never think it will happen to you, so sometimes you dont get the best cover, as it can be expensive esp if you have a family, some just have the basic

lets stop bashing Lee for not having insurance, and take it as a lesson, that ANYONE can be involved in a crash, as i have seen around 15 people killed who i know here just on bikes

i hope lee makes a speedy recovery
