2 weeks ago I had the flu, and I thoought I had recovered from it, but the last two nights I have had to get out of bed as it is soaking and last night my temperature was 38.7.

I'm also having terrible dreams. In the morning my temp is down to just 1 degree above normal and I feel OK apart from being a bit weak because of lack of sleep ,although I spent 10 hours in bed, very little of that was quality sleep time. :(

For 2 hours I come on the computer and drink Lemon Barley water to try to reduce the temperature

I'm at a loss to understand this, my Wife caught the flu off me and was hopitalised until 10 days ago, are we going round in circles?

I'd be greatful to hear from anyone else who has had such experiences. I have spent so much time at hospitals in the last 4 months I really don't want to go back again with yet another ailment

Thanks

This current flu going around seems to be quite severe with prolonged systemic reactions like fever but, seemingly, with less symptoms of upper respiratory tract infection like sore throats etc. Some people seem to have developed lower respiratory tract infections also but what does seem to be evident is that the virus still causes fever, with night sweats, for an extended period.

May have had some effect on the body's temp regulating center (usually happens in kids, not adults) but I have experienced the same; may also mean that the virus does not lead to an effective immune response and acts more like a "chronic" viral infection like CMV. Now in the Middle East and with the ambient temps outside in the high 40's break out in sweats with the least exertion. Suggest to take Panadol for a day or 2 regularly every 6 h, irrespective of fever or not. Continue with the high fluid intake as well; this seems to "stabilise" things again.

The other aspect to keep in mind is a developing underlying secondary infection and, if this contiues, have some bloods taken for white cell counts etc.

Please keep updating..

Best!

I've suffered 'night sweats' for over 30 years now. It's so bad that I have to get up and dry myself off with a towel. Then I can't get back into bed because that's soaked. I've been to many a doctor but the problem persists. I've been tested for Brucellosis, TB, Thyroid and so on. I was even told it was psychosomatic. The doctors basically gave up and said as long as it wasn't affecting my general health then just accept it. Anyway, after over 30 years I'm still here. Okay the 'sweats' are an inconvenience, to say the least, but if you feel okay otherwise, just get on with life.

Night Sweats are a fairly common medical problem. Even though the nomenclature and the symptoms suggest its relation to sleep, Night Sweats are not a sleep disorder.

Found the above publication on the net in a search for endemic viral diseases in Thailand to see if anything has been posted on the current outbreak (or what appears to be) in Chiang Mai. Dates back to 1988 but still some good info. Interesting here is the second one on the list PUO (Pyrexia of Unknown Origin) accounts for a very significant number. What this in fact means is that these are all diseases presenting with fever of some kind but without any other significant signs or symptoms. In rural areas, in fact all over Thailand, very little seems to go toward making very specific diagnoses when large numbers of people presents with fevers. Seems to be diagnosed as "Influenza" most of the time or PUO.

Unfortunately no breakdown by age group as this would be significant as PUO mostly applies to kids, not adults. In general, fevers of unknown origin are mostly due to arboviruses (mostly mosquito borne).

There is a strong suspicion that what you guys up there may be dealing with is one of these and not Influenza at all..

TP, hope you feel better!!

Hi FBN,

I don't feel better yet ,but I had a full blood count done yesterday and it appears my white bllod cells are about3 or 4 times what they should be, which my doctor indicates is a bacterial infection, so I am gonna drag myself back down to Dr.Morgan's clinic in a few hours to get some anti-biotics.

Hopefully things should be better within a week :)
