our Thai relative was recently advised by the local uk solicitor to regularise her stay in the uk by submitting a dependency application, This was the incorrect advice as she had residency rights from a former marriage to an eu citizen. the solicitor has admitted the mistake and offered a return of the fee we paid. However, we cannot now get our relative back from thailand. As well as the plane fare and application fee, of course we now have the cost of submitting a depency application from thailand - i would really like to hammer the solicitor for their bad advice - has anybody got experience of how to go about this and the chances of decent compensation.

If you live in England or Wales then you need to contact the Law Society.

If Scotland, the Law Society of Scotland.

If Northern Ireland, the Law Society of Northern Ireland.

This is an immigration forum. You're not asking for immigration advice, but advice on how to sue a solicitor. With respect to all, it is unlikely that anyone here will be able to advise you on that. So I'm closing this.

You may want to search for an appropriate UK based legal forum.

Should you want advice on obtaining the appropriate leave for your relative to return to the UK, feel free to open a new topic on that matter.
