Criminal Record Check

Featured Replies

I have been asked by my new employer for a Criminal Record Check. I am not sure how to go about this. I have lived in Chiang Mai for almost five years and have worked in a school for four of those. I obviously have a clean record but need to prove it. Can someone please give me some guidelines as to my next step?

I'm trying to do the police clearance certificate by mail from Chiang Mai to BKK. I went to the main CM Police Station, inside the moat on Ratchadamneun, not far from Wat Pra Singh, to get fingerprinted. I was sent to a building in the back of the complex, where they fingerprint the incoming prisoners and hold them in temporary cells. After a longish wait for the right official, I was given one set of fingerprints. (I begged for 3 sets, as required according to the above website. But I had forgotten to bring along the list of requirements, so I had no proof. I'll have to go back again with the list and request two more sets.) In the meantime, the official was telling me I have to take everything to my country's consulate. After some consideration, I decided he was correct -- because the requirements state that all photocopies (passport, etc.) have to be "certified." Now I'll have to make an appt at my consulate. It's a time-consuming process.:o

Oh dear! The US consulate charged me $50 just to certify a copy of my passport. What a drag.
