Microsoft Support In English In Thailand

Recommended Posts

Sorry to bother you. I have tried searching extensively on the web but no luck so far.

I have a new Acer bought in Thailand with Windows Ultimate. Everything is legit.

If I try to get support from Microsoft on-line they won't recognize my Product Key.

If I try to register on the Thai support site it's all in Thai.

So, 2 questions, please:

1. I guess there is NO free on-line Microsoft support in English if you buy your software in Thailand?

2. The Browser Button (lower right) re wordprocessing: I cannot get the Go To Page function to work. It will go ... but not to the page I want.

Any advice, please?

Apologies again.

I have gotten help from Microsoft Thailand in English some years ago. I am sure it is very different now. I have tried to contact MS Thailand for some other things more recently and I have not been able to get anything in English.

Not sure exactly the problem you are having. Are you talking about going to the physical page in the word processor? Or a page number (which may not be the same as the physical page number) ?

If you are talking about Microsoft Word, I would suggest to just browse to Office Online and do a search for what you are looking for. Be sure to search in the correct version of Word if that is the word processor you are using.

You can also use the help in whatever program you are using.

In my system and using Word, the function you seem to be referring to is on the bottom left and it works correctly for my version.

You need to be more specific about what software you are using.

Windows is not a Word processor and a Windows product key will not get you MSOffice support. Presumably you have MS Office/Word. But which version? 2007? 2010? If it is an OEM version you wont get support for that either, even with a valid key.

All of your support must come from Acer. They provide support for all software bought with the machine. If you have added Ultimate yourself you have3 to check whether you have a full version key or an OEM key. OEM keys are for software installed by machine builders and do not come with support. your support must come from the supplieer.

Oh dear! I AM a complete idiot. Thank you all for your replies. I will try on-line searches again. The problem is that ALL the information I have been able to find on-line re the browser/search function (the little button @ the lower right-hand side of a word-processing document in Windows Ultimate) does not help with fixing the GO TO Page function. I have a 500 page document, and sometimes I want to go to Page 47, or 54, or whatever. This system used to work very well in XP. But in Windows 7, it has very little functionality at all: it just goes to a page it seems to like and won't go anywhere else. The other buttons/icons within the browser button are fine: I can find specific words, for example. I wish I had never, ever bought Windows 7. It has been a nightmare.

Thank you all once again.

Still need to know what 'word processor' you are using. This is MS Office Word 2007 under Win7 - is that the browser box you are referring to? I am having no problems with the Goto feature.

Also a member mentions this - "Are you talking about going to the physical page in the word processor? Or a page number (which may not be the same as the physical page number)"

Dont bother searching online; you are using the wrong words altogether and will probably never get an applicable solution that way.

Just tell us what software you are actually using to do the word processing. The name of the software will be part of the icon/button/menu item you use to start it. It will also appear somewhere at the top of the window, or indeed in the help/about menu.

Windows 7 is an extremely good operating system; far and away the best that MS has ever made. But it is not a word processor, so stop blaming it.

Oh dear, I had no idea ( I am a complete idiot) that there was some sort of problem identifying 'word processing' as being different from the word processing files which I use in Windows 7 Ultimate. I had no idea there was a choice: I just use the program I bought. I guess it must be MS Office Word 2007. The problem I am having is with the GO TO PAGE part of the Goto feature (which I call the Browse button on the lower right hand side of a word processing document). The icon for Find (a) Word (within the Browse Button: the round button located on the lower right hand side of the screen in a word processing document using Windows 7) works okay: the Go To Page does not. When I go into the Button icons, within what I call the Browse Icon and others call the Goto feature, and click on Page Find, it will not go to the page number I want: it goes to a page number of its own choice.

I guess I am not explaining things properly: Quote: "Are you talking about going to the physical page in the word processor? Or a page number (which may not be the same as the physical page number)" ? I am really sorry: I didn't know there were different kinds of page numbers.

I don't know how better to explain this, because I am not a computer person: I have a 500 page document. Sometimes I want to go to a specific page in my document: let's say, page 7. That means Page 7 in my document: the page which at the foot of the page has the number 7. I guess I am not making it clear, because I don't understand the difference between a 'physical page in the word processor' versus 'a page number (which may not be the same as the physical page number.' The Go/to feature in XP worked well and I used it continuously.

Please forgive me for my stupidity.

OK. Let's go with Word 2007.

At the bottom left there is a little box saying "page x of y".

Does the "y" correspond with the number in the footer of the last page in your document?

Click on the little box. The "goto" dialogue will appear. Select "page" on the left and type 100 into the box. Click "goto". Which page does it take you to?

Dear Darrel, you are a very patient man and I thank you for it!

Much merit will be accrued, I promise you.

Okay, I did what you recommended (and learnt 2 new places for the GO TO function: lower left as you suggested, and upper right as well: wonders will never cease).

Yup, then I did 'Go To page 100': no, it goes to p129. Tested it with other numbers, too. Always goes to either p129 or p 80.

I use a lot of footnotes and I suspect the problem has something to do with this: perhaps I have configured the footer improperly. I am REALLY struggling with Windows 7. I have not actually configured the footer, other than 'inserting' footnotes and page numbers.

Dear Darrel, thank you. Perhaps I am too utterly stupid to help. On the other hand, you may have a further suggestion?

Thank you.

Please stop blaming Windows 7. That is the operating system, not the programme. What you mean is that you are having trouble with Word, the version of which is probably not the same as whatever you were using previously.

Anyway, it sounds as though you may have created your page numbers/footers in a strange way and that may be causing the problem.

The correct way to insert page numbers is via the menu item "insert: page numbers". It will give you several choices of where to put them. I would put them somewhere where there is no other information, so probably not in your footer. Page numbers inserted this way will update automatically as you alter the document, and should be searchable correctly. Do not insert numbers manually as they will not update or be searchable.

You should also check that the paper size/format settings are correct for the document.
