My Non O visa expires This Monday November 7th. We have been battling the approaching flood water in Nongkhaem for over a week and finally we have been overwhelmed with 1 meter high water on our property on Petchakasem 112 road in Nongkhaem. We are safely living on our 2nd floor with electricity but the waters are still rising as of this post and leaving the property can only be achieved by boat...which i do not own. There was a military truck that was bringing flooded residents out of the Soi and to the evacuation center at a temple on Petchkasem Rd but even that means of transport has disappeared since the waters have risen in the last 48 hours. Is there any provision for a grace period for visa renewals due to the flood? The overstay penalty is very high for me but I do not see a way to get to a neighboring country considering the circumstances.

I would appreciate any info you may have on this topic.

Thanks you,

Tom Pryor

It sounds like you are flood bound by choice if you have been battling the water for a week. You should have got out and either gone to immigration to apply for an extension, if you qualify for one, or moved to a place that you weren't going to be flood bound. Immigration has opened temporary offices to deal with the flooding problem and I doubt that they will have much sympathy for you. Your visa expires Monday so you better "swim" to Suan Plu or go to the airport and leave if you don't want to pay overstay.

Same scenario for me, plus the fact that I have a wound on my right leg... So, walking in dirty water is a complete no-no.

A week ago, I explained -on the phone- my case to Pol. Lt Duangjina -the head of Nonthaburi immigration- and he said to me that I will not have any overstay fine to pay as soon as I provide:

- proof of residing in a flooded area

- letter from a doctor regarding my wound

When my leg will get better, I can meet him at his temporary office on Tiwanon road to regularize my situation. Then I can buy 7 days extension if I want to have enough time to organize another visa run without any rush... That was his words!

I think your being a little hard on the guy, it's bad enough his residence is being flooded and belonging being moved or destroyed. He also has to deal with a visa issue and no transportation exists because of his current situation. How about cutting the guy some slack.

My house in Bang Bua Thong has been flooded for three weeks. My son and dog were evacuated by boat on the 19th of October when the water on the first floor rose to 80 cm. We moved everything that was not tied down to the second floor and are now living in another province. The water is now reported to be about 1.5 meters and I don't expect it to receed enough to get back in until mid to late Novemebr at the earliest. My retirement visa extension expired on the 6th of November but I got the required Income Affidavit from the US Embassy and extended it on the 25th of October in anticipation that Bangkok would be "flooded" by the 6th of November. I don't know why you think that I should be compasionate and "cut the guy some slack" when he admittedly knew it was coming, didn't do anything about it in advance when he could, and is now looking for an out because there's water in his house. Sounds like he might be related to one of the Thai politicians who have absolutely no common sense.
