hi

i am an irish citizen heading to thailand dec 01,2011 for 2 weeks.(ur typical 2 week millionaire!!)

i just checked my p'port and it expires 19 april 2012,which is 4 months (rather than the advised 6 months)

after my departure date.

i have been to thailand twice a year for the last 12 years as a typical 2 week tourist.

i have always returned home on the allotted day-the stamps are there in my passport to prove it.

i have a return ticket so there is ample evidence that i will be returning home on the intended date.

i have a friend living in bangkok who can vouch for me if necessary.

so,i just want to know has anyone ever been refused entry based on this "6 month passport expiration date advice/rule?"

i hadn't intended getting my passport renewed until april 2012 as i won't be travelling again until summer 2012.

i could still get it renewed but the turnaround time for same would make it a tight affair-also i'd have to traveland take some time off work.

i would have thought the thai authorities, given the drop in tourist numbers, would be delighted to have me!!

apologies if i have posted in the wrong forum and i appreciate that it is not the most pressing problem/issue on here.

regards,thanks

antonius

Immigration will allow you entry, the 6 month validity rule has been abolished. Now it is Ok as long as the passport is valid for the intended duration of stay.

(Consulates may still require you to have a validity of at least 6 month in order to give you a visa).

The 6 month rule is still in force for the issue of a visa, at consulate's/Embassy's. Well it was as of three week's ago in England.

Tip on passport's England they will add on up to 8 month's on your new 10 year passport if your old one has still got time to run, so you don't loose to much if any.
