Meltdown
The best Chiropractic treatment I have ever experienced was last year from Dr. Wade Brackenbury. He practices in Dr. Dons Clinic. I have been to everyone, and he was just amazing! Magical Hands for sure.
tayto
Seeking a Chiropractor?I am Dr Bob Clark, a Chiropractor from Melbourne Australia. I have an office here in Bangkok on Sukhumvit Soi 22. For those of you seeking the care of a Chiropractor I am open between Tue-Fri at 12:30pm until 8:30pm and Sat from 9am until 1pm. My fees are 1,800 baht initial consultation and 1,200 baht standard visits. The type of service is exactly what I offer in Australia (and price is the same AUD x 30 = Baht). I am a member of the Chiropractic Association of Australia - CAA - and abide by its' code of ethics/professional standards. Also, I am a Gonstead Practitioner and what you receive during patient care is the Chiropractic Adjustment. No contraptions, stretching, twisting, heat packs, electro-stimuli etc. The Adjustment is a high-velocity low-amplitude thrust - HVLA. Simple, safe and effective. If this suits your requirements, please visit www.clark-chiropractic.com for further information. Kindest regards, Dr Bob. Pretty steep for Thailand. Considering the cost of living here, I would call it a rip off.
MrPlum
Anyone know a good chiropractor in Bangkok? At a good price? I visited the office of Sanctuary Chriopractic Natural Health on Soi Langsuan today, they want 2,500B for first visit and 1,200B each additional visit. Quite expensive. Their prices went up 30 percent since November. At that time, additional visits were 800B. Having been scammed by a Chiropractor peddling 'subluxation' as justification for unecessary and repeat (paying) visits I have learned that chiropractic is an unethical and dangerous profession that unnecessarily injures hundreds of people every year. A subluxation ie. abnormal vertbral motion/position is associated with nerve disfunction by definition. Proproception (sence of motion, muscle tension etc..) must be affected if a segment is dyfunctioning for whatever reason. Subluxation is an effect, not a cause of patient complaints so chiropractors who treat it are ignoring the real causes of patient problems and making them dependent on palliative care. Being in a room with several 'beds' that allow the 'doctor' to move from bed to bed slammming sliding boards into patient's backs, then 'cracking' the neck, sounds like you are being treated but I suspect that after the first visit, it's more for dough as well as for show. There are less aggressive ways of releasing the spine. When I'm too lazy to stretch in the morning, I have my Thai g/f walk along my back. I can feel each vertebrae release and it doesn't cost me a penny. We each 'plow our own furrow' in life and I'm sure mine will not be the last word. wimster
@Tayto: obviously you have a) not been treated by Dr. Bob (he's good, and I have other experiences) you don't know what a treatment like this costs abroad (US 40-50 is normal). Yes, expensive compared to the cost of living here, but that's not how you measure this. So NO rip-off at all. Seeking a Chiropractor? I am Dr Bob Clark, a Chiropractor from Melbourne Australia. Dakhar
First, thanks to everyone for giving me some leads on finding a good Chiropractor in town. Personally, I am a little nervous about using a new doctor that wasnt reccommended by a prior doctor of mine, but I'm at a loss here.I think maybe I will check out Chaiyapong Limvongvatana and Dr. Dan. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Just wondering if this is a common name, Chaiyapong Limvongvatana. I was looking for a law firm to help me register a company and came across this law firm Siam Legal *http://siam-legal.com/profile.html*. The CEO of this law firm is called Chaiyapong Limvongvatana as well. Could this be the same person??? My wife is looking for a chiropractor here and i'm hoping to find one that is good and reliable. A chiropractor who doubles up as a "MD" of a law firm certainly doesnt do it for me....come to think of it, the website says he is also a DC, wonder if that means "Doctor Chiropractor"???? <{POST_SNAPBACK}> DC means Doctor of Chiropractic. Chiropractic care (derived from the Greek, meaning "done by hand") dates back to the 1895. The discipline was developed by Daniel David Palmer, a self-taught healer in Davenport, Iowa. Palmer's objective was to find a cure for disease and illness that did not use drugs. Palmer studied the structure of the spine and the ancient art of manipulation. The education requires a minimum of six years of college and a clinic internship before licensure. Areas of scientific study include anatomy, neurology, bacteriology, pathology, physiology, biochemistry, pediatrics, geriatrics, spinal biomechanics, orthopedics, X-ray, cardiology, nutrition, acupuncture, physiotherapy, gastrointestinal and genitourinary systems, and infectious diseases. I am from Norway, and have been at Dr. Dons Center in Bangkok. Dr. Don Nakaya Nielson, a 1986 graduate of CCCLA and a professional kickboxer who earned his first black belt at the age of 15. He have been 14 times world champion in heavy weight thai boxing. He has also played in many movies. Dr. Don Nakaya Nielson I would highly reccomend the standard of Dr. Don. When I was there, he was working togheter with Dr. Wade Brackenbury and other DC`s. They work as a good team, and I hope dr. Wade will be back. Good Luck ! Sincerely Michael Yes, and MD means medical doctorate. So apparently for a doctorate in chiro, you need a BS and then 2 more years, which sounds like an MS degree. That may have been why there was a community cup at the water dispenser. Chiros are awesome, for such little training, they have the ability to treat anything from toe jam to tinnitus. Why can't MDs do the same? Edited December 9, 2007 by Dakhar

Gary A
I'd use some caution before going to a chiropractor. Years ago I had back problems. I went to an osteopath but wasn't satisfied with the treatment and advice. I then took a friend's advice and went to see his chiropractor. Within two days and two "treatments" I could hardly get out of bed. I went back the the osteopath and after checking me he remarked that he had rarely seen spasms and irritation like I had. He finally asked me if I had been to a chiropractor. I admitted that I had. He got red in the face and actually yelled at me. He told me I was free to go to another medical doctor and come back to him but that if I ever went to another chiropractor not to bother to come back to him. I have never been to a chiropractor since.

I have never been to a chiropractor since. Actually osteopathy and chripractic are extermely similiar disciplines so I'm a little surprised by this. Where problems really come in is (1) not every self proclaimed "chircopracter" is actually trained and licensed as such and (2) even the properly trained ones, and most certainly the others, do not always properly screen who they treat. In many countries both chiropracters and osteopaths and licensed and regulated. I don't think this is the case in LOS or if it is, doubt it is well enforced. So the risks that the chirpracter or osteopath you see isn't really one may be greater (altho that can happen even in countries with strict licensing laws too). Be sure to check out qualifications. Secondly, unloess you are quite sure that there is no osteoporosis or other bone disease, disc herniation and the like (in other words, your bones are fine but you just have some aches and pains), prior to undergoing treatment by either an osteopath or a chircopracter you should have an MRI as well as spinal Xray. Actually they should ask for that and review the results before deciding on a plan of treatment; if they don't, that in itself is a good sign to head for the door. If MRI or Xray shpw significant pathology, discuss with a doctor first whether manipulation of the spine is safe in your case and whether there are any specific cautions that should be applied. And then be sure the practitioner is aware of that. Particular caution is needed with regard to manipulations of the cervical spine. There have been cases of permanent paralysis asa result of chirpractic mistakes in that regard. This is not to suggest that all chiropractic treatments/practitioners are unsafe; they aren't; just that the same level of caution and research is needed when getting this type of treatment as when going to an allopathic physician. BTW the following link (from the Britich Medical Journal) gives a good clear explanation of the differences and similarities between the 2 disciplnes : http://bmj.bmjjournals.com/cgi/content/full/319/7218/1176

Doctors like to crack on chiropractors (pun intended). But I will tell you that since the age of 16 there have been times I couldn't have functioned without a chiropractor. I remember when I tried the more "accepted" medical techniques...like laying on the floor for 10 days on heavy pain meds...and finally giving up, going back to a chiropractor, and walking out of his office with little or no pain after just one treatment. I feel sorry for those who are too stubborn to try a "cp", particularly because of the sound.
whichschool
I went to Dr Oat with severe whiplash and I m ok now, its Sukumvit soi 38, tel 02/39214001000thb first visit, 800 subsequent (if) visits. I went to this guy because of several recommendations on here, well what can i say .... I walked in with mild lower back pain, it is a muscle issue that re occurs from time to time, whilst this time it didnt affect my day to day living it was affecting my gym workouts as i like to go 5 times a week. Anyway after filling out the form on arrival asking about this and previous medical conditions which was not looked at by Dr Oat, i was then taken to a room and told him about the problem he then put those pads that heat up/vibrate and relax your muscles placed on my lower back for 10 minutes, he then came in cracked my back 2 times on either side, and then held my head and cracked my neck ..... There was no manual manipulation of the muscles which to me was a surprise as every different form of physio ive ever been to they have done this. This came to 1000bht for what was 5 minutes with the Dr. and 10 mins of having the pads on my back. Now walking out my back felt kind of strange, not better but i wasnt expecting this as it takes time for the body to heal itself a physio/chiro/osteopath can only set it in the direction. But that evening the area around top of my spine/ bottom of me neck was in severe pain and i couldnt lift my head up without putting my hand in this area to take the weight .... its now 5 days later and i'm still in a lot of pain and cant twist my neck or sit up without being in pain, furthermore the lower back problem which initially wasnt that bad is now extremely painful and extremely delicate constantly, and from past experience can now tell it will need a lot of treatment as im now unable to work out at all. Ive always thought people who said they were worse after visiting these people were exaggerating, i now know this isnt the case and backstreet medical practices like this which are from what i can see unregulated are best avoided as there is no way of making a complaint or getting the problem that was caused by the so called Dr. fixed. My advice whilst in BKK is to go to a hospital or regulated medical centre pay the extra and keep well away from this guy as he in my opinion is just a chancer. Sheryl
No one should allow manipulation of their spine without first being sure that there are no vertebral or disc problems. At minimum, an Xray and consult an orthopedic specialist to be sure that spinal manipulation is not contraindicated. That said, a responsible chiropracter would also insist on at least an Xray and review it before starting in.

I have been diagnosed with Spondylosis. I have a prolapsed disc in my neck and one in my lower back. One causes chronic, numbness/burning and pain in my right arm and the other a pain going from buttock to calf. I was recently also (or alternatively, as it was the same doctor) diagnosed with carpal tunnel syndrome for the hand pains. Surgery is always suggested and I always avoid it. Is there a chiropractor around Nakhon Sawan, I am sure this will solve my pains. Last year, suffering the same pains but opposite limbs I went to one in Bulgaria and it cured the pain until now. I'm sure I can get the Xrays from the hospital to show the Chiropractor.
vladaman
I like Dr. Anthony Kell - Chiropractor with quite extensive experience. I found many older doctors in Bangkok have this practice as a retirement. Anthony runs his practice professionally and he is also experienced in Golf and other sport related injuries. Stay away from guys who just crack your back and send you home. I prefer someone who can do some deep tissue massage, physiotherapy etc. I am looking for permanent solutions, not just cracking back. This way your joints will just get loose but without permanent fix. Check his site: Dr. Anthony Kell - Chiropractor Website Vlad

bulp
Hi everyone, I wouldn't recommend D-Spine at Langsuan. The consultation is about 1 hour long, but they use many hot/cold packs and they actually spend not more then 5 minutes adjusting. I've been there with my thai gf. she doesn't speak english corectly and the doctor's assistant couldn't translate correctly what my gf was saying because the assistant didn't speak english either. We bought a package of 4 sessions at sirikit center, that's what the D.C recommended, but once the sessions were finished they asked another 30 sessions (34K baht) to finish the treatment and they don't sell individual sessions. The worse, is that the doctors created a new back pain she didn't have and now she hurts a lot. From what i've read in this thread, we might try Don nakaya. Thanks

Backwoods
I have been to Dr, Don for a few visits, and he has done MUA on me, (manipulation under anesthesia), and after almost crippling pain, the result are good but not toatlly better yet! This was all done by him, another chiropractor and an anestisiologist. He did in fact send me for Xrays, and I knew of damage to several places that have progressivley worse. He is indeed a MD and DC. Anyways, the OP asked for opinions, I like this guy and he speaks good english as well and took lots of extra time to explaing things in Thai to wife also! Just my two cents!!!
Gregorio
Dr. Don at Bioenergy Asia has my vote. I had severe arm pain for two weeks, originating in my upper back and neck. After two visits I had some pretty good relief, after the third visit I had remarkable and lasting relief. He is never in a hurry when treating me and always patiently answers my questions. He has a great staff - efficient and professional. First visit was 1800 baht. Follow up visits were 1400 baht. Your mileage may vary. Bioenergy Asia 172/7 Soi Prasanmitr Sukhumvit 23 Klongtoey-Nue Wattana, Bangkok 10110 02-258-0350 Bioenergyasia.com It's about a 10-15 minute stroll from Sukhumvit Road. There are motorcycle taxis at Sukhumvit Road who know "Dr. Don" so no advanced Thai speaking required. His website has a great map.
