Hi,

I've searched Thaivisa as well as other related sites and have not found any up to date information of what to do for a UK settlement visa. I have found useful lists of what supporting documents to include with your application but not of what an applicant must do ie English test, TB test etc.

My wife and I are looking to go to the UK around june July next year. What tests etc are required and is there any limit to how long they can be done before submitting the application? Where do we go to do the tests? Does anyone know if it's possible to complete any of the requirements in Chiang Mai (where we are based)? We got married in October and her passport is still in her maiden name, would this have to changed before we could even start the first step? Also does anyone know the up to date cost of the visa and other requirements?

Cheers,

You'll need to show you can support her. Bank statements

That the accommodation is suitable. Mortgage details. Land registry details (download)

That the relationship is real. Phone calls emails photos etc

TB X-ray. Search IOM Bangkok. Not sure how long the test lasts but we got ours in one day.

English test A1 search Vantage Siam Bangkok. You need to take writing. Reading. Listening & speaking. You need to pass the last two to level A1. Is a fairly easy test. You'll get test reports from Bangkok and a certificate from Cambridge uni in the uk. Valid for 2 years.

We also included ban book, birth certificates for both.

If you are changing your wife's name I would recommend to do this first. The name on the TB test needs to match the passport.

As far as I know. Bangkok is the only place.

Hope this helps

Thanks, that's exactly what I was after! Although I didn't know it was quite that expensive! Last I heard the visa was around 30K.

Thanks again for your help!

Thanks 7by7. A really big help. I was feeling a little overwhelmed by it all and had no idea where to start. Thanks to you and Unobeano I'm ready to get cracking.

Just take your time,

Start with your covering letter, where you met, where you both are now, and where you will stay in the UK.

Then prove it all with your supporting documents.

Start with a blank folder, and add sections

About Your Wife - English test TB results ID card etc

About you Passport, financials employemt details

Where you will live Mortgage/Rent info, Land registry details, photos of house

Relationship, call logs, emails, photos,

Take your time and compile everything, then create an index to explain it all.

Sorry for the shocker, but it is 40500....

There seem to some changes coming, about spouse visas, level of income etc etc, With one thing or another the UK news seems to be all about immigration and the failings of the UKBA, i could imagine things getting tougher in the future ... (not scaring you) but dont leave it to long
