Hi

I am Irish and I have a son with my Thai wife. He was born in Thailand and has a Thai Passport. I would like to know if it is possible to get him an Irish passport or even dual nationality and how I would go about this?

Thanks and Regards

Liam

I don't know anything about Irish nationality laws, and what I know is based upon my experience with U.S. law so keep that in mind. The first thing I would do if I were you is to contact the Irish embassy and ask them about do a registration of foreign birth. I assume you have the Thai documents, and they list you as the father. If you take these documents to the Irish embassy (and I don't even know if there is an Irish Embassy in Thailand) or some type of consulate they should be able to steer you in the direction you need to go. This is assuming that Ireland allows citizenship to be decended from an Irish father, which I don't even know. I guess long story short is see if you can contact the consulate or embassy nearest you to see what they advise.

I'm Irish and my Thai/Irish daughters have Irish passports. They don't yet have Thai passports, not sure if that makes a difference. If you're in Bangkok then go to the Irish consulate in Thaniya Plaza on the fourth floor and ask them. Alternatively call 02 632 6720 and ask. They close at 12:30.

Both Ireland and Thailand allow dual nationality.

BTW, I've added a sub heading to the topic title to make what you wish to know more clear.
