Hi guys,

I'm planning to apply for a settlement/spouse visa with my wife over the Christmas period, as this will mean I only miss a small amount of work.

The application will be fully prepared before I go out there, and the TB test and ESOL tests will already have been passed.

The dates I am looking to go are 22nd December - 3rd January.

Hopefully I am just worrying too much, but will this be enough time to apply and do interviews etc, taking into account that the embassy might be closed due to Christmas?

What is involved, other than actually drop the application and documents off at the Embassy?

Cheers

Hi,

If everything is already in place it will just be a case of making a suitable appointment at VFS to submit which shouldn't be a problem. Be aware of the VFS closure dates for Christmas http://www.ukba.homeoffice.gov.uk/sitecontent/newsarticles/2011/november/62-thailand

Also just to clarify, the application is made at the VFS offices not at the Embassy. For the actual application submission it's just a case of handing in the supporting documents, making payment and having biometrics taken. From what I can remember we were at the VFS building for around 2hrs which included getting a bank draught from the bank downstairs too.

It would help you get relevant replies if you were to sat which country you are asking about.

As you mention TB and ESOL tests the assumption is you mean the UK; can you confirm, please?

If it is the UK, then an ESOL test is not required for a spouse settlement visa. What is required is a speaking and listening qualification from an approved provider equivalent to, or better than, level A1 (Basic Speaker) of the Common European Framework of Reference (CEFR). A written ESOL test is not acceptable as it does not include a speaking and listening element. See English language requirement.

Full details of how to apply, plus Christmas closures, can be found at UK Border Agency in Thailand.

Thanks for the replies. I do mean the UK.

We have arranged a test for my wife at the 'British Council Bangkok' (http://cambridgeesol...alification=ALL), that is listed on the 'New list of approved English language tests' (http://www.ukba.home...glish-tests.pdf) on the UKBA website. She has spoken to them, and they have confirmed that she is doing the speaking and listening bits.

Does this sound right?

Test sounds ok, it's on the approved list. Remember that if she fails the reading and writing bits it doesn't matter, as long as she gains at least A1 in the speaking and listening.

I've amended your topic title to show you are asking about the UK.

My wife also needs to take an English Language test for her Settlement Visa.

When I first looked into this a couple of months ago I could only find info on the BULATS test, but would be interested to know of any alternative.

When I click on the'cambridgeesol....' link above, and then select 'British Council', they seem to be only offering teaching courses / tests? (TKT / Delta Module One).<LI nodeIndex="2"> I'd very much appreciate any info / advice / help!

Many thanks.
