Hi All

First post on this forum. As I love thailand and really love to go there but have gotten bored as to not having my bike in tow I was thinking about having my next trip with bike! Now of course it is invaluable to have good tips and trix as to trails and such I was wondering how hard it is to hock up with other MTB people. It would be great around pattaya as there is where my friends live and therefor so much cheaper for me but I am open for suggestions. Now Im mostly free ride downhill. I would really like it if there would be thais with mtb trail experience but as long as one doesn't have to guess on ones own.

All tips or trip reports for such a journey would be great.

Hello ‘Flaviosen’

Welcome to TV……OK, the thing is I don’t really know the downhill scene in Pattaya……I think, (someone may prove me wrong) but there’s no good hills down there. I’ve ridden down there, and in the main I’ve found it to be…..a little un-scenic, and the off-road, in the winter very sandy, mainly flat….and a little boring……..Only my opinion!

Again, only my opinion….But if you want some ‘awesome’……..Yes, I know, I’ll say it again…… ‘awesome’ down hilling and X-county……..Go north my son, Chiang Mai.

If you get up this way..Chiangmai, and want to do some x-country, PM me..

it was a lot more expensive to get yourself to chiang mai though. Cost a lot. Are there like cheap ways of going from bangkok to CM that doesn't take forever? Also what does a decent DH bike cost in thailand. Maybe not bring my bike from sweden but buy a new bike in thailand and bring home? could be an option. Well, I really will look into going to CM for 8-10 days in january. Just got to figure out how to get there.

You can get an overnight train to CM from BKK, (best book in advance) you can get a bunk for…..about 750’ish. Or there’s the bus…..Again overnight, cheap enough……Best start looking on the net! Accommodation in and around CM….It’s all here and maybe a little cheaper than the south, with downhill on your door step, as for a new downhill bike? Sorry can’t help there, again, nose around TV, see what you can find and check the web……….Good luck

I agree w/Tonto as I just got back from Pattaya and as is w/most beach places, esp. in Thailand it's flat near the sea. Trek bikes are a good deal in Thailand, they are an American co. but most of the bikes except the real high end ones are made in Asia so readily available as well. Another option is there is some companies that rent them here, one place had good downhill bikes for 500 bht a day and probably can negotiate a better week price. Also there are lots of downhill riders here in Chiang Mai and they meet a the bottom of Doi (Mt.) Suthep to share a songtell (pickup truck taxi) up to the top. Check with the local bike shops for more info when you arrive.
