My wife has now got a settlement visa for herself and twin daughters and arrived in the UK in August 2011.We were wondering what are the chances of bringing her niece to live in the UK if I sponser her.She is 11 years old and basically been brought up with her own daughters.Any advice or relative information would be greatly appreciated.

If the niece is to go into private school education then it is possible to get a visa to allow this. I don't know anything about the details but the school should be able to tell you more.

Otherwise it will be a struggle, I fear.

" She is 11 years old and basically been brought up with her own daughters." Come on be realistic, in legal terms that amounts to zilch, I know where your coming from but....

Unless there are no relatives at all in Thailand who can take care of the child, you have no chance.

Even adoption does not guarantee anything.

SET7.18 How do adopted chidren qualify for settlement.

In the case of UK-based adopters hoping to adopt a child which has been given or 'gifted' to them by relatives abroad, there is very little chance of them being able to bring the child into the UK. The UK's international obligations prevent any acceptance of such practices. Even if a foreign adoption has been completed, the requirements of the Immigration Rules will prevent an entry clearance being issued to such a child.
