Have Gold, Will Travel?

I have a gold necklace and a gold bar, both exceeding the 18 carat ceiling for gold which can be "exported" from Thailand. Does this mean that if left Thailand wearing/carrying them I would breaking the law? In other words, does the mere act of taking these items out of Thailand constitute "exporting" them?

Also, what would be the position assuming one did arrive at the UK with a gold necklace and/or gold bar? Would they have be declared and be subject to import duty, even if one was only taking a holiday either or both items would be returning to Thailand when it was over?

Sorry, but not the sort of questions one seems able to get answers to easily through the official channels!
