advise as to what documents she will need?

to summarise we got married in the U.K last year and are returning to Thailand next month for holiday and to get new passport for the wife as hers runs out in March, all her U.K affairs are in our married name and we would like to get all her documents into the married name.

I understand she has to return to her home town to change the ID card in order to get the passport changed and so we need to get our marriage certificate translated, is there anything else that needs to be done?

Also one last thing....is the above a pointless exercise and should we just leave her passport in her thai surname?

Happy New Year to one and all....

My wife has not bothered changing her details on her passport. We have a UK marriage certificate so on the few occasions she needs to explain the difference she shows passport and marriage certificate.

Things may change when she applies for a British passport but there is no hurry to do anything before then.

The choice is yours some clients change the Thai ID card some don't it really makes little difference. If she changes her passport she will need to carry the old passport with her valid visa inside.

You should not have a problem changing her Id card to your surname, if that what you require, They may ask to see a Marriage certificate, Also i would check before you make a Journey to her home Town/Village , because a lot can now be done on line from different Amphers, I think they went back as far as 1970, maybe more now, which where on line. You may have a problem if you have bought a return tkt and you have changed her name in her passport. Unless you book your return flyt on her new passport from Thailand which is more Expensive than booking it from the UK.

Good thinking on the return leg of the journey about possible complications etc... as she has her bank account in our name over here etc then am probably best to keep it simple and just get a new passport which is an easy enough process from what I have read, thanks for all your replies jap.gif

My wife has all Thai stuff in maiden name and all stuff in UK in married name, including her UK passport, married in Thailand, we have never had any problems in either country with anything, bank accounts, flights etc.

There should be no complications. When checking in simply show both old and new passports and, if necessary, the marriage certificate.

They'll want to see the old passport anyway as that'll be the one with her UK visa in it, and the visa has your name on it.

We were advised by our travel agent that the name on the ticket must match the name on the valid passport. If my wife had changed her passport to her married name (when we went to Bangkok) they were not convinced she would have been able to fly back with that ticket. The old passport becomes invalid.

Perhaps a question to ask the airline and get a written response from a named individual. If in doubt get the passport changed at the Thai Embassy in the UK.

Thanks 7by7, I highlighted the above as I checked her passport lastnight and there was only the original fiance visa in there, then remembered that when she did get granted FLR all they sent through with current extension dates was the ID card with all the biometrics etc, that is in her Thai name so to save any confusion and holiday time we will not get any names changed in Thailand and just go for a new passport in her maiden name.

Once again thanks for all the replies wai.gif
